Director, Finance

Job description

This is a remote opportunity with occasional travel, estimated at less than 10%.

Kaléo is a global leader in drug‑delivery device technology and auto‑injector innovation, providing millions of patients, government partners, and emergency responders with security and peace of mind.

The Director, Finance serves as a strategic financial partner and the operational backbone of Kaléo’s Corporate Finance and FP&A function. The day-to-day responsibility includes leading the annual budget, rolling forecast cycles, and long-range planning, and for developing integrated profit and loss (P&L), balance sheet, and cash flow models. Additionally, this individual will lead the preparation of financial materials for the CEO, CFO, Board of Directors, and monthly Finance Committee reviews, and is a primary architect of the company’s financial narrative for executive audiences. This role partners closely with Treasury and Accounting to support cash and liquidity forecasting, capital planning, and debt-related reporting needs for leadership and governance forums. The Director also provides financial oversight of the company’s Commercial and Development revenue streams, leads cross-functional coordination of forecast inputs, and serves as a critical decision-support resource for the senior leadership team.

The Director will lead a small, high-performing Finance team at a growing, Private Equity-backed pharmaceutical company. This role offers rare breadth — spanning financial modeling, government contract economics, cash forecasting, and C-suite reporting — while remaining deeply hands-on. Successful candidates will exhibit curiosity, ability to prioritize across competing deadlines, advanced critical thinking skills, and the ability to lead and influence others.

The selected candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO, CFO, and Board while playing a visible role in shaping company strategy and financial outcomes. For someone who wants to lead a team, influence at the highest levels, and operate at the intersection of finance and strategic decision-making in a dynamic pharmaceutical environment, this is an exceptional opportunity. The company is also actively exploring AI-enabled finance capabilities, creating an opportunity for the right leader to help shape the future of how finance operates at Kaléo.

As Director, Finance you will:

  • Own and coordinate all company forecast cycles (annual budget, rolling forecasts, and long-range plans); develop and maintain integrated P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow models incorporating cross-functional inputs from all departments
  • Prepare scenario and sensitivity analyses to support leadership decision-making under uncertainty
  • Prepare monthly Finance Committee decks, Board of Directors financial materials, and CEO/CFO review packages (including monthly snapshot reports and concise one-page summaries); lead Finance Committee governance including spend request review and capital vs. operating spend oversight
  • Manage a 13-week rolling cash forecast (receipts and disbursements); monitor and report on liquidity, accounts receivable financing availability, and working-capital variances to senior leadership
  • Provide detailed revenue and cost of goods sold (COGS) analysis across all business lines (including price, volume, and mix drivers and key bridge/walk analyses); maintain unit economics models and support pricing assumption development
  • Assist commercial operations in evaluating new contracts, price change requests, and overall profitability
  • Partner with Commercial, HR, Manufacturing, and Operations on forecast inputs, compensation planning, COGS, and CAPEX; facilitate monthly financial review meetings with department heads and document variance commentary
  • Perform special ad-hoc analyses and support strategic initiatives and investment decisions as needed
  • Lead and develop a team of Finance Managers and Analysts; mentor team members and build long-term finance team capabilities
  • Ensure effective internal controls and compliance with government pricing/reporting, Sunshine Act, and other applicable requirements; coordinate with external auditors and advisors
  • Ensure financial systems and published reports are properly version-controlled and accessible to relevant stakeholders
  • Build relationships with the following: SVP, Strategy, Finance, HR & AI Transformation (Supervisor), Finance Managers and Analysts (Direct Reports), CEO and CFO (primary executive audience for financial materials), Board of Directors and Finance Committee, Accounting Team, Commercial/Market Access Team, Manufacturing/Quality Team, Government Development/Program Management Team, HR Team

A successful Director, Finance will demonstrate:

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to break down and solve complex financial problems, including multi-variable variance analysis
  • Advanced financial modeling capabilities across P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, and scenario/sensitivity analyses
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex financial data into clear, executive-ready narratives for diverse audiences including the Board, CEO, etc
  • Proven ability to manage and develop a finance team while remaining highly hands-on
  • High degree of data integrity and version control discipline; ability to manage complex, interconnected financial models across multiple workstreams
  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced, PE-backed environment with shifting priorities and tight deadlines
  • Openness to and experience with AI-enabled finance tools and workflow automation
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal communication skills; ability to build credibility and influence across functions
  • Robust intellectual curiosity and desire to be part of an innovative organization

To be considered for this position, you must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related discipline
