What you will be doing in the role of a Development Director, Social Events

The Development Director, Social Events will build and execute a premier $1M+ fundraising gala in Orange County. This role encompasses all revenue-generating activities including executive committee recruitment and activation, sponsorship solicitation, table sales, auction procurement, and year-round community engagement through strategic cultivation events. 

What you will bring to the table

Strategic Planning & Revenue Generation

  • Develop and execute comprehensive annual fundraising plan and budget to achieve $1M+ revenue goal
  • Build and maintain robust pipeline of sponsors, donors, and prospects using moves management methodology 
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and close major gifts, corporate partnerships, and foundation grants in collaboration with Individual Giving and Corporate Partner teams
  • Create compelling, customized proposals for diverse donor segments and assemble effective solicitation teams

Leadership & Relationship Management

  • Recruit, manage, and engage Event Chair and executive/associate leadership committees in partnership with market Executive Director 
  • Provide leadership in strengthening community confidence and relationships with Susan G. Komen
  • Build strategic partnerships with high-level executives, board members, and community leaders

Event Execution

  • Oversee multiple cultivation events designed to expand donor base and drive incremental revenue
  • Manage all event logistics and details in collaboration with Event Experience team
  • Optimize revenue levers including sponsorships, table sales, auction, paddle raise, and pre/post-event engagement

Collaboration & Reporting

  • Prepare briefings and revenue analyses for leadership, Executive Leadership Team (ELT), and Board of Directors 
  • Partner with Development Programs Strategy team to inform Social Event Series strategy and centralized resource development
  • Work with Revenue Strategy team to implement and evaluate fundraising best practices
  • Support market Executive Director and additional events as needed, building comprehensive market support pipeline
  • Travel throughout territory to identify and cultivate major gift prospects
  • Maintain collaborative relationships across all Komen departments; participate in regional and enterprise-wide initiatives

Mission Advancement

  • Maintain current knowledge of Susan G. Komen mission, programs, and fundraising initiatives
  • Serve as mission ambassador within the community

We know you will have and be able to

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Social Entrepreneurship; other equivalencies considered and 7-10 years of progressive development experience 
  • Proven track record leading gala events generating $1M+ in revenue 
  • Demonstrated success in major gift identification, cultivation, and closing 
  • Experience creating high-level, customized proposals for varied donor constituencies 
  • Strong ability to recruit, build, and lead effective solicitation teams 
  • Expertise working with C-suite executives and board members 
  • Excellent fundraising planning and budget management capabilities 
  • Experience building sustainable donors and sponsor pipelines 
  • Proficiency with Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) systems 
  • Outstanding interpersonal and cross-functional collaboration skills 
  • Strong leadership, stewardship, and relationship-building abilities 
  • Passion for and knowledge of Susan G. Komen's mission and programs 
  • Adaptability and flexibility in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment 
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel 30%+ based on seasonal business needs 
  • Travel requirements required outside of your home office will be up to 30% or more depending on our business needs.

  • Competitive salary of $70,000 - $90,000/annual, exact compensation ranges are based on a range of factors including but not limited to the labor market, job level, internal equity, and budget. Offers given will take into consideration the candidate's skills, education, experience, geographic location, and other necessary credentials.

Komen provides a remote and/or home-based working environment for all active employees.
