  • Handle academic administration duties such as submitting data and maintaining student records; participate in staff meetings and committees; assist in reports; act as liaison between students, faculty, staff, campus and university constituents

Job Summary

Support students in evaluating and determining their interests and abilities as a link to selecting majors or programs. Guide students in developing a plan of study that meets degree requirements and fits their timetable for graduation. Maintain a consistent pattern of contact to encourage a trusting relationship through multiple channels of communication. Assess when a situation calls for professional intervention or academic referral. Conduct audits on student progress toward their degree. Complete documentation for proper maintenance of student records. Participate in orientation activities and recruiting activities designed to attract new students.

 

What You'll Be Doing:

 

STUDENT ADVISING AND EDUCATING - Provide academic advising to assigned students; assess other needs and make professional referrals; maintain and ensure confidentiality of student records. Interpret University policies, procedures, and curriculum to students, faculty, staff and administration. Guide students in course selection and scheduling; assist in resolving academic problems; identify and monitor academic progress.

 

COMMUNICATIONS – Communicate regularly to encourage a trusting relationship with students via e-mail, text, appointment campaigns and other electronic platforms. Document contact notes on advising appointments and correspondence. Assess when a situation calls for more probing questions. Make explicit students’ responsibility for their own academic and professional success. Build and maintain contacts with other advising units. Communicate with students regarding curricular and co-curricular opportunities. May participate in orientation activities for college/department. Teach students about professional communication standards.

 

DEPARTMENT SUPPORT – May participate in college level events and programs. Participate in events that serve advising in the university community. Assist with the recruitment and retention of undergraduate students for the academic unit/campus.

 

ACADEMIC ADMINISTRATION DUTIES – Submit necessary data and documentation for proper maintenance of student records. Participate in staff meetings. Participate in systems training and updates. Assist in the preparation of reports and serving on advising related committees. Act as liaison between students, faculty, staff, campus and University constituents.

 

This position is a hybrid/remote position advising students in the Veterinary Technology Distance Learning Program. Time will be spend approximately 75% remote and 25% physically present on the West Lafayette campus.

 

The salary for this position will start at $46,000 per year, plus benefits.

About Us:

The Veterinary Technology Distance Learning (VTDL) program is the #1 Veterinary Technician program in the nation and allows students flexibility to learn at their own pace and craft a unique pathway to success. The curriculum combines online courses with clinical mentorship experiences preparing graduates to pass the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE) with a 80-86%% pass rate, well above the national average of 67%. The VTDL program was one of the first completely online Veterinary Technician programs having launched in 2002. The program is continuing to grow having increased enrollment by 40% in the last year alone. As an academic advisor for the VTDL program, you will have the opportunity to interact with students that represent a wide variety of backgrounds, ages, goals, and geographic locations.

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 

 

Nice to have:

  • Knowledge of undergraduate student development and recruitment
  • Proficiency in digital platforms, such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams
  • Experience working with distance learning programs and/or non-traditional students
