Staff Site Reliability Engineer Storage

⭐ Mission
Your mission is to ensure the reliability, resilience, and safe operations of Qonto’s critical storage systems (PostgreSQL, Kafka, Redis), while progressively evolving them toward a seamless Platform-as-a-Service experience for our developers. Working closely with Damien, our Storage Lead, you will protect the "keys to the vault"—client data and funds—ensuring our infrastructure meets the highest resilience standards as Qonto scales and prepares to become a bank.

👩‍💻🧑‍💻 As a Staff SRE at Qonto, you will

• Assess the resilience maturity of our current Kafka and Redis stacks, identify key risks, and propose a clear, business-aligned improvement roadmap during your first 3 months.
• Deliver concrete improvements on disaster recovery (DR) readiness, safe upgrades, alerting, and capacity planning with visible impact on our production.
• Act as an internal consultant for our backend and product engineering teams, leading design reviews, providing guidance, and enabling them to use storage systems efficiently.
• Respond to and lead high-severity incidents on critical stateful infrastructure, maintaining calm under pressure, mitigating impact rapidly, and communicating clearly.
• Drive a platform engineering mindset by building automation, tooling, and APIs to improve the developer experience and prepare our infrastructure for the future of AI-operated systems.

🤔 What you can expect

• High-Stakes Context: You will take on a critical role managing the integrity of client data in a fully remote, distributed team across France, at a time when we are elevating our systems to meet banking-grade resilience standards as Qonto transitions to becoming a fully licensed bank.
• Methodologies and Time Split: We value autonomy and focus. You can expect to spend ~50% of your time on deep, structural projects, ~25% on operational maintenance and incident response, and ~25% on "glue work" consulting with engineering teams.
• Impactful Challenges: Because we are looking for a Staff-level expert to bring a fresh perspective, we will give you the space and trust to diagnose, reshape and elevate our resilience strategies on our core distributed caching and messaging layers (Kafka and Redis)
• Tools we use: You will work heavily with Kafka (MSK), Redis (ElastiCache), PostgreSQL, AWS, Terraform, and Kubernetes.

• Experience: You have strong, hands-on experience operating distributed infrastructure and stateful systems at scale in production, particularly Kafka (MSK) and Redis (ElastiCache).
• SRE Mastery: You master core reliability fundamentals, including disaster recovery (DR) planning, incident management, observability, and capacity planning.
• Platform Mindset: You have a track record of treating infrastructure as a product, building automation (IaC), tooling, or DBaaS-like solutions that improve the developer experience.
• Autonomy & Rigor: You are highly rigorous and detail-oriented, capable of independently navigating complex, evolving production environments legacy environments, anticipating risks, and making safe decisions during major incidents.
• Communication: You act as a trusted partner, able to translate complex infrastructure constraints into clear guidance for backend engineers and other stakeholders.
