Responsibilities

  • Practise obstetrics as the primary area within a Rural Generalist model, with flexibility to contribute to emergency, inpatient care and clinics
  • Provide antenatal and birthing care in a maternity unit with Level 3 neonatal support, supported by telehealth partnerships with ACCHOs
  • Collaborate with the Emergency Department, Operating Theatre and specialist outpatient clinics in a multidisciplinary, patient-centred approach
  • Operate within Rural Generalist levels (L1–L3) based on experience and participate in ongoing professional development

Rural Generalist / Senior Rural Generalist – Obstetrician

Gove | Nhulunbuy, NT (MMM7)
Full-time | Fixed Term 3 Years
Total Package: $366,402 – $447,470 p.a.

An exceptional opportunity is available for a Rural Generalist Obstetrician or Senior Rural Generalist Obstetrician to join Gove District Hospital in Nhulunbuy, East Arnhem Land. This role offers attractive remuneration package, combined with genuine professional fulfilment and an outstanding lifestyle in a unique remote community.

The Role

You will work within a Rural Generalist model, primarily practising in your area of advanced skills (Obstetrics), with the flexibility to contribute across emergency, inpatient care, and special clinics as required.

Appointments will be made at Rural Generalist Level 1 to Senior Rural Generalist Level 3, depending on experience.

Remuneration & Incentives

Total remuneration package: $366,402 – $447,470 per annum, including:

  • Base salary: $207,165 – $234,964
  • Practitioner Allowance: 30% of base salary
  • Professional Development Allowance: $22,251 per annum
  • Revenue Activity Incentives: up to $85,000 per annum
  • Attraction & Retention Bonuses
  • Remote retention payments
  • Maximum GPRIP payments (MMM7 classification)
  • Superannuation and leave loading included

The Hospital

Hospital is a 30-bed regional hospital providing a comprehensive range of services, including:

  • Acute medical, surgical, paediatric, maternity, and respite care
  • Emergency Department and Operating Theatre
  • Specialist outpatient clinics

The maternity unit delivers collaborative antenatal and birthing care, supported by telehealth partnerships with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs). The hospital operates a Level 3 nursery, with tertiary neonatal and obstetric support.
