About Us

The NC Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) is the state government agency created to conserve and sustain the state’s fish and wildlife resources through research, scientific management, wise use and public input. The NCWRC is the regulatory agency responsible for the enforcement of North Carolina’s fishing, hunting, trapping, and boating laws. The agency has an operational budget of approximately $100 million and employs approximately 700 full-time staff and 100 seasonal temporary staff across the state, including wildlife and fisheries biologists and technicians, wildlife law enforcement officers, wildlife educators, communication specialists, and customer service, information technology and administrative professionals. The NCWRC Mission is to conserve North Carolina’s wildlife resources and their habitats and provide programs and opportunities that allow hunters, anglers, boaters, and other outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy wildlife-associated recreation.

Description of Work

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is accepting applications for a Western Wildlife Diversity Supervisor (Conservation Biologist Manager) for our Wildlife Management Division.

The mission of the Wildlife Management Division is to conserve wildlife species and habitats and to develop, implement, and facilitate sound wildlife management policies and programs to ensure the wise use of wildlife resources by North Carolina citizens. This position is critical to accomplishing the Commission’s goals of conserving fish and wildlife habitats and protecting, managing and enhancing wildlife populations statewide. This position administers the daily affairs of the Wildlife Management Division Wildlife Diversity Program, including the direction of six professional biologists and several temporary staff. This position is also responsible for the supervision and coordination of all Western Wildlife Diversity projects.

The primary purpose of this position is to supervise, direct, and assist with the terrestrial diversity component of the Wildlife Diversity Program in the western half of the state. These responsibilities are critical to accomplishing the Commission’s goals of conserving fish and wildlife habitats and protecting and enhancing nongame populations. This position is responsible for all administrative tasks associated with the daily affairs and long-term goals of the Wildlife Diversity Program in the western half of North Carolina, and for supervising all the work unit’s activities. Responsibilities include multiple statewide/division level needs such as budget development and oversight, grant reporting and monitoring, and activities identified in the 2025 N.C. Wildlife Action Plan, the blueprint for the Wildlife Diversity program. The position assumes the supervisor role for six (6) staff members plus associated temporary employees as applicable.

This position is HOME-BASED. The incumbent must reside within North Carolina’s mountain region. This is a Monday–Friday position, working 40 hours per week. This position requires frequent travel, including occasional overnight travel. This position also requires travel to the WRC-HQ in Raleigh, NC.

  • Skills to manage program budgets and grants.

Special Qualification/Requirement:

  • Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license is required within 90 days of hire.

RECRUITMENT RANGE: $75,925 - $100,000

Classification Specs | NC Office of Human Resources

Bachelor's degree in wildlife or fisheries management, fisheries science, zoology, or a biological science, or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution, and five years of related experience;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience.
