About the Role
We are looking for a talented Content Designer to join a multidisciplinary Agile team delivering a content management and CRM tool used across a large central government organisation. The tool supports teams in logging contact and interaction data, reducing duplication, and improving efficiency across the organisation.
You will play a key role in shaping how the product communicates with its users — designing clear, accessible, user-centred content that supports onboarding, engagement, and adoption across a growing user base. Working alongside user researchers, interaction designers, business analysts, and product managers, you will help ensure the service meets the needs of its users and adheres to GDS standards.
Key Responsibilities
Design and write clear, accessible, and user-centred content across the service, including guidance, interface copy, notifications, and onboarding materials.
Work closely with user researchers to understand user needs and translate findings into effective content.
Collaborate with interaction designers and developers to ensure content is integrated seamlessly into the product.
Support the development and iteration of onboarding and engagement processes for new users.
Contribute to the documentation of user requirements, content standards, and content guidelines.
Help build and maintain robust feedback loops between live service users and the build team.
Ensure all content meets GDS Content Design standards, WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility requirements, and plain English principles.
Support the wider team in developing an engagement strategy to drive adoption across new teams and platforms.
Participate in show and tells, sprint reviews, and stakeholder sessions as required.
Essential Skills and Experience
Proven experience as a Content Designer or Content Writer in a digital service environment.
Strong understanding of GDS Content Design principles and the Government Design System.
Ability to write in plain English for diverse audiences, including non-technical users.
Experience working in Agile multidisciplinary teams.
Familiarity with accessibility standards, particularly WCAG 2.2 AA.
Strong collaboration and communication skills.
Ability to take complex information and turn it into clear, actionable content.
Desirable
Experience working on public sector digital services.
Familiarity with content management tools or CRM platforms.
Experience supporting user onboarding or service adoption programmes.
Knowledge of user research methods and how to apply findings to content decisions.
