Senior Risk/Compliance Specialist

Job description

This is a remote position.

Aveni is redefining how financial institutions use AI. We build real, production-ready agentic systems that reshape how banks, advisers and financial services firms operate, replacing fragmented processes with intelligent, end-to-end workflows. We have been recognised as Fintech of the Year for two consecutive years and awarded Best Specialist Technology Service at the Professional Adviser Awards 2025. Backed by leading investors including Puma Private Equity, and commercially supported by Lloyds Banking Group and Nationwide Building Society, we previously completed one of Scotland’s largest Series A rounds. Since then, we’ve continued to grow rapidly as adoption of AI in financial services accelerates, and we’re now scaling our team to meet that demand.

The Role

We’re looking for a Senior Risk & Compliance Specialist to play a pivotal role in shaping and embedding risk and compliance expertise at the core of our AI-driven products.

This is a hands-on role for an experienced professional who has operated across the Lines of Defence in complex financial services organisations and understands how regulation translates into real-world operating models. You’ll work closely with Product, Engineering and AI teams, ensuring that our solutions reflect practical, regulatory-aligned approaches to risk and compliance.

This is not a traditional compliance role — it’s an opportunity to influence how next-generation AI solutions are designed, built and deployed across the financial services industry.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Build and evolve a Compliance Knowledge Hub, translating regulation into product-ready logic
  • Act as a subject matter expert across UK and European regulatory frameworks
  • Work closely with product, engineering and AI teams to embed compliance into features
  • Support development of AI/LLM capabilities with real-world compliance insight
  • Partner with commercial teams to shape product direction and growth
  • Engage clients and industry stakeholders to refine and enhance solutions
  • Monitor regulatory changes and translate them into actionable product requirements
  • Support client risk and compliance transformation initiatives
  • Contribute to strategic direction, including Aveni’s Risk 2030 vision

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

Experience

  • Significant experience in 1st or 2nd Line of Defence risk or compliance roles
  • Strong track record of both setting direction and delivering risk/compliance initiatives
  • Deep understanding of UK and European regulatory regimes and how to operationalise them
  • Experience designing and implementing policies, control frameworks and taxonomies
  • Proven ability to translate regulatory requirements into product and technology solutions
  • Experience working with product and engineering teams, ideally on AI-enabled solutions
  • Track record of driving risk and compliance transformation across complex organisations
  • Experience engaging with UK regulators and articulating risk appetite
  • Comfortable working with modern technologies supporting risk and compliance functions

Knowledge

  • Regulatory frameworks and supervisory expectations across UK/EU financial services
  • Risk and compliance operating models across the Lines of Defence
  • Control design, governance, oversight and evidencing requirements
  • Emerging applications of AI within regulated environments

Mindset & Working Style

  • Strong communicator with the ability to simplify complex regulatory concepts
  • Hands-on, self-starter with a “build and improve” mentality
  • Methodical and detail-oriented, with a completer-finisher mindset
  • Collaborative and able to work across diverse technical and commercial teams
  • Pragmatic and commercially aware in applying regulatory expectations

Why This Role Is Different

  • A genuine opportunity to shape how AI is applied to risk and compliance in financial services
  • Direct influence on product design, not just oversight or governance
  • Exposure to cutting-edge AI and LLM development in a regulated context
  • The chance to define industry-leading approaches to compliance in an evolving space
  • A career-defining role at the intersection of regulation, technology and innovation
