The Unit/Shift Manager plays a key role in overseeing a designated unit or shift within the facility's department(s). This position is responsible for managing and coordinating the unit or shift's daily operations, ensuring targets are met, and maintaining quality, safety, and efficiency standards. The Unit Manager supervises and supports a team of production supervisors, providing leadership, guidance, and direction to achieve departmental objectives.
Lead and manage the operations of the assigned unit or shift within the department(s), ensuring adherence to schedules, quality standards, and safety regulations.
Supervise and support a team of supervisors, providing leadership, coaching, training, and performance management to foster a high-performing and cohesive team environment.
Plan and coordinate activities, including staffing, resource allocation, equipment utilization, and workflow optimization, to meet targets and customer demand.
Monitor processes and quality control measures to identify opportunities for improvement, address issues, and ensure consistent quality and compliance with specifications.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as maintenance, engineering, quality assurance, and logistics, to address issues, optimize processes, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Implement and enforce safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment for all staff, including regular safety inspections, training, and enforcement of safety policies.
Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and best practices, ensuring consistency and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Analyze data, performance metrics, and KPIs to track unit performance, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions to improve efficiency, productivity, and cost-effectiveness.
Manage and control expenses within budgetary constraints, identify cost-saving opportunities, and implement measures to optimize resource utilization and reduce waste.
Serve as a liaison between supervisors, management, and other departments, communicating goals, priorities, and expectations, and facilitating collaboration and alignment to achieve departmental objectives.
Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field;
Proven experience in production or maintenance management or related field, with at least 4 years of experience in a food manufacturing environment.
Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and develop teams to achieve operational excellence.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels of the organization, as well as external stakeholders.
Solid understanding of food manufacturing processes, quality management systems, and regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, USDA).
Proficiency in planning and scheduling, budgeting, and cost control techniques.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement.
Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodology, and other process improvement methodologies.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to changing business needs.
Master's degree preferred.
Certification in production management or related fields is a plus.
