Requirements:

  • Support campaign implementation by advising on volunteer, partner, policy maker and legislator engagement; assist with contracts, invoices, vendor communications, budgeting and reporting; establish collaborations and represent ACS CAN

Job description

The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) is the nation's leading cancer advocacy organization. Together with our charitable partner, the American Cancer Society, we work in Congress, state legislatures and local jurisdictions to support evidence-based policy and legislative solutions designed to eliminate cancer as a major health problem.

The Associate State & Local Campaigns manager will be part of the team responsible for the execution of a state-by-state public education and policy initiative to reduce tobacco use. This role works in partnership with ACS CAN regional and field team to support and drive the campaign strategies in all 50 states, DC and territories, participates in campaign meetings, creates campaign materials as needed including action alerts, fact sheets and testimony, social media posts for grassroots and legislative audiences. This position tracks expenses, processes invoices, works with vendors, writes contracts and routes contracts for approval.

The Associate Campaign Manager have frequent interaction with volunteers and storytellers will help create strategies to grow a story bank, write up story narratives, consult on ways to feature stories in support of campaign objectives including with the media, policy makers, trainings, etc. working in close collaboration with the project team, including ACS CAN state and regional team, ACS CAN grassroots, media advocacy, and policy teams.

***This is a fully remote position that can be home-based anywhere within the United States. Prior experience in story collection for advocacy is highly preferred. Proficient skills using Canva, infographics for story-telling is needed.***

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Story Collection: 60%

  • Identify and interview potential storytellers, with the goal of telling compelling stories and ensure stories are entered into the story bank. May include writing their stories, building relationships, and identifying ways to engage them in ACS CAN campaign work.

  • In collaboration with the project team, field team and media advocacy staff:
    (1) Assist in the development and successful execution of a plan for identifying and collecting diverse stories;
    (2) Support execution of a media plan to leverage and disseminate these stories through various media channels;
    (3) Identify, collect, produce and deploy stories in a story sharing campaign. and
    (4) as appropriate recruit individuals to join ACS CAN as a volunteer.

  • Working with the media advocacy and grassroots staff, package Medicaid stories to be shared on social media as part of a coordinated digital campaign.

  • Incorporate stories into existing campaign events such as coalition meetings, rallies, town hall/community meetings, briefings, hearings and other related meetings with policymakers.

Campaign Implementation: 40%

  • Consult on the development of and participate in implementation of strategies in comprehensive plan for engagement of volunteers, partners, policy makers and legislators. Participate in state campaign strategy calls as appropriate to support, deliver and contribute to campaign strategies. This is done in partnership with field team and state and local prevention team using the fundamental principles of Direct Action Organizing.

  • Assist in the execution of contracts, contract, grant and invoice tracking and payments, vendor communication and support budget reporting and compliance.

  • Establish and maintain collaborations and partnerships with internally, other organizations and community influencers to forward assigned campaign objectives. Accurately and effectively represent ACS CAN and its mission in a manner commensurate with the organization’s brand.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Degree Required: Bachelor's Degree

  • Preferred Degree: Bachelor's Degree

  • Years of experience: 2-4 years

  • Driver’s License Requirement(s): Preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, as well as the ability to adopt the style, tone, and voice accordingly when documenting people’s stories.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with many different stakeholders and constituencies.

  • Ability to multi-task, be well organized, collaborative and flexible in performing tasks as priorities will change from time to time depending upon program changes.

  • Experience producing content for the web, as well as channel-specific knowledge (blog, Facebook, Twitter, etc.).

  • Understanding of public policy and issue campaigns.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Occasional air and car travel

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Frequent of sitting, standing, lifting, walking, bending, as part of campaign implementation.

The starting rate is $56,000 to $70,000 annual. The final candidate's relevant experience/skills will be considered before an offer is extended. Actual starting pay will vary based on non-discriminatory factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education.
