Title: Instructional Designer

Reports: Director of e-Learning

Status: Full-time, exempt

Location: Los Angeles (Little Tokyo Office)

Hours of Operation: 9:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday

Salary Range: $80,000 - $95,000 annually (based on experience and qualifications)

What We Do:
Woodcraft Rangers provides TK-12 expanded learning programs, including before and after school, specialty enrichment, and summer learning. In the past few years, Woodcraft has expanded its menu of services beyond traditional afterschool programs and summer camps to include early learning, environmental and social justice, college access, and inclusion services for youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Additionally, we offer LifeCraft, a college and career advancement program to support the development of approximately 2,000 staff. Today, Woodcraft Rangers serves more than 30,000 youth ages 4 to 18 each year across 150 plus Title I schools in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties, and continues to expand its reach.

Role Overview:
The Instructional Designer role plays a crucial role in enhancing our organization's learning and development initiatives by concepting, designing, and creating a wide variety of online training elements including, but not limited to, micro learnings, modules, courses, materials for instructor-led trainings, as well as job aids and other elements to support our digital learning program. This role involves researching and implementing best practices in the design and creation of both physical and digital content to support training across diverse topics such as social and emotional learning (SEL), behavior management, and leadership, to a wide array of content areas including STEM and the arts. Working collaboratively with the Learning and Development team, the L&D Instructional Designer contributes to the creation of comprehensive and scalable learning solutions. This position is designed for those committed to fostering an environment of continuous improvement and excellence in youth development practices.
Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrable experience in responsive instructional design, with a strong portfolio showcasing digital content creation.
  • Expertise in using design software like Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) and familiarity with web design tools.
  • Understanding of eLearning platforms such as Articulate, Captivate, Absorb, Udemy, Coursera, Udacity, EdX, Kajabi, and/or YouTube.
  • Adeptness in navigating and utilizing the latest digital platforms, apps, and technologies relevant to digital education and design.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, maintaining attention to detail and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex design concepts clearly to different audiences.
  • Willingness to continuously learn and adapt to new technologies and design trends in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.
  • An understanding of diverse communities and the ability to incorporate cultural considerations into design and technology applications.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with ethnically and culturally diverse communities, along with a comprehensive understanding of the unique needs of high-need areas in Los Angeles.
  • Valid LIVE Scan, TB Clearance, and CPR Certification (provided by Woodcraft Rangers).
Qualifications/Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in Instructional Design, Online Training, or closely related fields.
  • In-depth understanding of instructional design models and learning theories

  • Strong visual sense, creativity, and ability to translate ideas into visual concepts. 
  • Proficiency in graphic design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite, as well as other video and animation applications.
  • Ability to effectively communicate design ideas, receive feedback, and work collaboratively. 
  • Ability to identify and address design challenges and find creative solutions. 
  • Time management, organization, and attention to detail. 
  • Positive attitude that fosters a constructive and encouraging design and production environment.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team, adapting to the needs of the organization and its staff.
  • Strong multi-tasking skills, capable of managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously without compromising quality.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, able to convey information clearly and persuasively.
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in educational technology platforms and virtual learning environments like Microsoft PowerPoint, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams. A willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies is essential.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt, staying abreast of new trends in training and development, and continuously seeking ways to improve personal and organizational performance.
  • Strong self-motivation and self-learning abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent standing is required during working hours

  • Stable internet access is required for effective work-from-home performance.
