As a member of the Public Markets team, complete investment analysis activities for public equity, liquid / semi-liquid diversifying strategies, and fixed income for Advocate Health, Inc. and its subsidiaries. Monitor global economic and market conditions to recognize opportunities for new investments. Perform rigorous qualitative and quantitative due diligence to validate the attractiveness of investment opportunities and recommend actions to the investment team Monitor and continually evaluate investments after the investment decision is implemented with ongoing due diligence activities to include: preparing and analyzing investment reports, monitoring and evaluating investment manager performance, and utilizing risk management tools Position is expected to collaborate with other investment team members regarding qualitative and quantitative investment analysis and reporting. 

 

Major Responsibilities: 

 

  • Investment Analytics: Perform investment analysis (both qualitative and quantitative) of both individual investment managers and appropriate asset classes. Gather, extract, and aggregate data from Dynamo, Onbase, investment manager inquires, and other sources. Evaluate investment manager performance and summarize relevant developments to the deal team, VPs and SVP-Chief Investment Officer. Utilize and maintain reports detailing the exposures and key developments within the portfolio. 

 

  • Investment Manager Evaluation: Continually monitor and evaluate investment manager performance relative to established benchmarks and asset class. Review industry reports and performance commentary to the extent it may impact existing managers. Collect necessary data for risk aggregation. Periodically provide narrative to asset class leads, VPs and SVP-Chief Investment Officer regarding material developments to contribute to portfolio level performance and risk analysis efforts. 

 

  • Risk Management: Utilize risk management tools and reports detailing the exposure of investment managers to various metrics of interest, including sectors, regions, market capitalizations, factors, etc. Research any metrics that fall outside of established expectations and recommend appropriate action to manage these risks. 

 

  • Due Diligence and Market Research: Monitor global market conditions and the investment activities of investment managers. Actively participate in meetings with existing and prospective investment managers and summarize information or proposed action items gleaned from those meetings. 

 

  • Due Diligence: Actively participate in periodic meetings and calls with both existing and prospective investment managers to gain an understanding of the manager's philosophy, process, and portfolio. Thoroughly review offering materials provided by prospective investment managers and summarize key terms, strengths, and prospective issues to deal teams and VPs. Compile due diligence data requests lists and seek appropriate information to address diligence matters. Conduct competitive / peer analysis and review track record vs relevant benchmark data for prospective managers. 

 

  • On-Going Monitoring: Read all communications from investment managers and summarize key issues and/or changes to asset class leads and VPs. 

 

  • Market Research: Perform market research for the purpose of industry education, trend identification, and documentation of best practices. Attend relevant local industry events and read pertinent white papers, summarizing findings for members of the investment team. 

 

  • Documentation: Work with deal team, asset class leads, and VPs to ensure proper documentation of investment diligence, approval, and sizing decisions. Review and maintain relevant internal databases to ensure accurate investment manager and service provider contact information as well as fees and other key contractual terms. Review manager communications and conduct periodic manager data requests as appropriate. 

 

  • Manager Reporting: Collaborate with Investment Operations team to review accuracy and completeness of manager performance and other reporting data. Ensure accessibility of documents for use by Operations and/or Accounting teams. Utilize appropriate technology to optimize external and internal data request processes. 

 

  • Investment Operations Support: Collaborate and coordinate with members of the investment team across a variety of workflows, specifically investment operations. Investment operations support may include maintenance of internal databases, preparation of direction letters and legal documents, aggregation of portfolio level data, trade planning and cash forecasting. 

 

Education Requirements: 

 Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting or Economics 

 This is a pre-MBA or other master’s degree position. 

 

Experience Requirements: 

 Typically requires ~2+ years of related experience in investments, capital market or finance for investment analyst and ~5+ years of related experience for senior investment analyst 

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: 

 Excellent spreadsheet skills (pivot tables, data tables for sensitivities, etc) 

 Strong analytical skills 

 Strong communication skills 

 Exceptional attention to detail 

 Experience with Bloomberg (or interest in learning) 

 Must be a team player 

 Ability to handle confidential information with respect given sensitive nature of the data 

 Ability to prioritize independently and respond to multiple simultaneous requests 

 Ability to work in changing environment. Ability to work under stressful conditions and in difficult situations. 

 Willingness to pursue additional education such as the CFA designation 

Schedule Details/Additional Information 

  • Partially remote position, Chicago or Charlotte-based. Expectation to commute to Oak Brook (Chicago) or Midtown/Dilworth (Charlotte) office 1-2 times per week.
