Job Description:

Epiq is seeking a Senior Director, Enterprise AI Center of Excellence (CoE) to lead the next phase of its enterprise‑wide AI, data, and digital transformation. This role is a solution‑focused technology leader position responsible for establishing and scaling Epiq’s AI operating model for the enterprise, enabling secure and responsible AI adoption, and delivering measurable business value through high‑impact, production‑ready solutions.

Reporting to the SVP of Transformation in the Enterprise Technology & Operations (ETO) organization, this leader will bridge technology and business strategy, driving high‑velocity innovation, operational efficiency, and revenue enablement across corporate functions including Finance, Legal, HR, Marketing, and ET&O. The role will build and lead a product‑centric AI organization, ensuring strong governance, clear ROI accountability, and sustained organizational adoption.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise AI Strategy & Operating Model

  • Design, establish, and operationalize Epiq’s Enterprise AI Center of Excellence, including governance, intake, prioritization, delivery, and value realization models aligned with ETO portfolio frameworks.
  • Define and implement an enterprise AI operating model that balances innovation velocity with security, compliance, and responsible AI principles, building on existing AI governance initiatives.
  • Establish clear standards for AI architecture, tooling, data readiness, security‑by‑design, and lifecycle management in partnership with Cyber Security, Legal, Compliance, and Corporate IT.

Product‑Centric Delivery & Business Optimization

  • Build and lead  the development of AI solutions focused on internal business optimization, workforce productivity, and scalable enterprise capabilities rather than one‑off solutions.
  • Ensure AI initiatives integrate seamlessly with broader Digital Transformation, Enterprise Data Platform, and corporate platforms strategies.
  • Translate business problems into AI‑enabled products and platforms that deliver tangible outcomes such as cost reduction, cycle‑time improvement, risk mitigation, and revenue acceleration.

High‑Velocity Innovation & Use Case Harvesting

  • Lead High‑Velocity Innovation by driving structured AI use‑case harvesting across Finance, Legal, HR, Marketing, and ETO, leveraging proven harvesting frameworks and cross‑functional engagement models.
  • Oversee prioritization of AI use cases based on feasibility, impact, and strategic alignment, ensuring transparency and avoidance of duplication across functions.
  • Accelerate the transition from experimentation to production‑grade AI solutions with clear ownership, funding, and success metrics.

Governance, Risk, and Value Realization

  • Ensure enterprise‑wide AI governance, including responsible AI practices, regulatory alignment, risk management, and auditability, in partnership with Legal, Compliance, and Cyber Security.
  • Establish robust ROI, value tracking, and benefits realization mechanisms to measure operational velocity, adoption, and business impact of AI investments.
  • Provide executive‑level reporting and dashboards on AI portfolio health, value delivered, and risks.

Leadership, Change Management & Adoption

  • Build, lead, and mentor high‑performing, cross‑disciplinary teams spanning AI product management, engineering, data, and change management.
  • Drive integrated change management, ensuring AI adoption is embedded into day‑to‑day workflows with training, communications, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, translating complex AI concepts into clear business outcomes and decisions.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, or related field preferred.

  • Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in IT management.

  • Proven track record of building and scaling enterprise Centers of Excellence, operating models, or product organizations.
  • Deep expertise in applied AI (including generative, assistive, and agentic AI), data platforms, and digital transformation—focused on production delivery, not experimentation alone.
  • Strong experience bridging technology and business, with demonstrated success delivering measurable ROI and operational outcomes.
  • Executive‑level leadership presence with the ability to influence across Finance, Legal, HR, Technology, and Operations.
  • Experience operating in regulated environments with strong appreciation for security, privacy, and compliance requirements.

About the Role
Epiq is seeking an accomplished Director of AI Platforms & Agentic Systems to lead the strategic direction, execution, and scaling of Epiq’s AI ecosystem within legal services. This pivotal role is responsible for architecting and operationalizing a robust, extensible, and compliant AI platform that empowers teams to deliver AI-driven workflows across cyber incident response, compliance, investigations, and litigation.

As a technical leader, the Director will blend architectural vision, people leadership, and cross-functional execution. This position will define how AI is built, governed, and scaled at Epiq, while enabling Principal and Senior Engineers to deliver impactful solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • AI Platform Strategy:

    • Define and evolve Epiq’s agent-based AI platform strategy, leveraging frameworks such as CrewAI, Dify, LangGraph, and MCP-based tool orchestration.

    • Establish the long-term technical vision for agent ecosystems, including standards for tools, workflows, memory, evaluation, observability, and governance.

    • Translate business priorities across legal domains into a cohesive, scalable AI platform roadmap.

  • Systems Scaling:

    • Ensure AI solutions progress from pilot to production to platformized capabilities, minimizing one-off implementations.

    • Develop architectural guardrails and reusable components to enable consistent delivery across teams and regions.

    • Champion compliance-by-design AI, emphasizing auditability, explainability, and human-in-the-loop controls.

  • Team Leadership:

    • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team of Principal, Senior, and Staff AI Engineers.

    • Set engineering standards, career development paths, and operating rhythms that balance innovation with reliability.

    • Act as a force multiplier—removing obstacles, resolving architectural tradeoffs, and accelerating team delivery.

  • Cross-Functional Partnership:

    • Collaborate with Product, Legal SMEs, Security, Compliance, and Client Delivery to align AI capabilities with real-world legal workflows.

    • Engage directly with strategic clients to provide technical guidance, participate in roadmap discussions, and establish technical credibility.

    • Represent Epiq externally with partners, vendors, and academic institutions.

  • Operational Excellence:

    • Own and report on AI platform metrics, including adoption, reliability, cost efficiency, quality, and business impact.

    • Advance LLMOps/MLOps maturity across environments, focusing on evaluation, monitoring, rollback, and governance.

    • Make informed build-vs-buy decisions for models, tools, and platforms with a clear ROI focus.

Qualifications

  • Leadership & Scope:

    • Minimum 12 years of experience in software engineering, AI systems, or platform engineering.

    • At least 5 years in technical leadership roles (Director, Senior Manager, or equivalent) with responsibility for multi-team delivery.

    • Proven track record of scaling platform teams beyond single product teams.

  • AI & Platform Expertise:

    • Deep understanding of agent-based AI systems, tool orchestration, and workflow automation.

    • Hands-on experience with agent frameworks (e.g., CrewAI, Dify, LangGraph, AutoGen) and familiarity with MCP or similar protocol-based architectures.

    • Demonstrated ability to define and enforce architectural standards across teams.

  • Cloud, SaaS, and Operations:

    • Extensive experience with cloud-native SaaS platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).

    • Strong knowledge of multi-tenant architectures, security, reliability, and cost controls.

    • Experience operationalizing AI in regulated or high-risk environments is strongly preferred.

  • Communication & Influence:

    • Exceptional ability to communicate complex technical concepts to executive leadership, clients, and regulators.

    • Skilled at balancing speed, safety, cost, and quality in decision-making.

    • Strong collaboration skills across product, engineering, legal, and go-to-market teams.

Why Join Epiq?
As Director of AI Platforms & Agentic Systems, you will define how AI is built and scaled across one of the world’s leading legal services platforms. You will own both strategy and execution—shaping an AI ecosystem that empowers innovation internally and externally.
