Job description

Change.org is searching for a Senior Social Media Specialist, Australia to bring expertise in both content creation (70% of role) and social media strategy (30% of role) to take Change.org’s social presence in Australia to the next level. You will report to our Communications Manager, Australia. As a senior member of our Australian team, you’ll manage and own the daily output across all social channels, create reactive short-form video and static social assets, handle influencer outreach and activation, and create short- and long-term strategies for social growth. You will report on performance on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis, and use this data to optimise our social media strategy in real time.

Change.org is the world’s largest platform for democracy. At a time when dissatisfaction with democracy globally is at an all-time high, we’re investing heavily in using AI to build the most powerful tools in the world to give people greater voice, while bringing people across the political spectrum together to identify shared solutions.

Our core petitions platform, used by more than 100 million people annually, is growing rapidly - and we are rebuilding it from the ground-up using new tools to turn anyone into a powerful civic leader on the issues they care about. Soon we will launch a new platform to identify the >80% of issues that most people agree on, locally and nationally, and to mobilise hundreds of millions of people to advocate for those common-ground solutions.

To realise this vision, we’re expanding the most talented team in the world at the intersection of technology and social impact - all focused every day on building healthier democracies globally.

Key Outcomes:

  • Lead and define the Change.org Australia social media strategy, significantly growing the Australian Change.org social media channels with a focus on creating a diverse audience, and owning social KPIs including impressions, engagement, and new user acquisition.

  • Create timely, newsy short-form video content with viral potential for daily output on all social channels, with a focus on Instagram, TikTok and Facebook

  • Promote petitions across the political spectrum in an objective, journalistic style, maintaining Change.org’s position as an open platform

  • Develop and execute an influencer engagement strategy to support priority campaigns, and track and report on performance and conversion impact.

The most important core competencies for the role are:

  • Strong social media content creation experience, with a genuine expertise in creating impactful and compelling short-form video content.

  • Proactive at finding new ways to optimise content based on data, and developing social media strategies that grow following and engage target audiences.

  • Proven track record of engaging audiences across platforms, especially TikTok and Instagram.

  • Be comfortable appearing on-camera to present videos when needed

  • Ability to build and own relationships with influencers that will help drive engagement goals.

  • A good understanding of the Australian news and campaigns landscape, and the ability to generate ideas based on current trends and issues.

  • Willingness to work across differences, including providing support to policy-compliant campaigns that you may not agree with but align with Change.org’s commitment to being an open platform.

  • Experience of harnessing AI to streamline and support your work, alongside a willingness to keep learning in this area.

Target experience:

  • 5+ years in a social media role, working in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience in leading social media for a major Australian media outlet or campaign organisation, and growing it substantially, would be desirable.
