💼 Type: Full-time (exempt)

📌 Job details

We are seeking a talented Project Engineer to join our engineering team and play a key role in designing high-performance geothermal systems for residential projects. In this hands-on role, you will focus on the detailed engineering of ground loop heat exchangers and related components, ensuring efficient, cost-effective, and reliable installations. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented engineer with strong technical skills in HVAC and CAD drafting. Reporting to Sr. Geothermal Engineer, you'll help us bring clean, efficient geothermal energy to more homes nationwide.

🛠️ Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed construction shop drawings for geothermal system installations, including piping layouts, borehole configurations, and equipment placement.

• Develop and maintain accurate bills of materials (BOMs) for each project, optimizing for cost, availability, and performance.

• Perform AutoCAD drafting and modeling to create precise 2D/3D designs of ground loops, manifolds, and system integrations, and manage CAD file template structure.

• Complete head loss calculations for ground loop circuits to ensure proper flow rates, pump sizing, and overall system efficiency.

• Design ground loop heat exchangers, including sizing boreholes, determining loop lengths, selecting pipe materials, and incorporating site-specific soil and thermal data.

• Collaborate with sales, project management, and installation teams to refine designs based on site surveys, customer needs, and regulatory requirements.

• Complete site visits for quality checks at various stages of installation with internal crews and external partners.

• Review and iterate designs to minimize installation challenges and maximize system longevity and performance.

• Stay current with industry standards (e.g., IGSHPA, ASHRAE) and contribute to internal tools and process improvements.

🎯 We’re looking for:

• A collaborative teammate who takes pride in creating beautiful, precise work.

• Strong understanding of fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and head loss calculations.

• Familiarity with ground loop heat exchanger design principles, including vertical, horizontal, and pond/lake loops.

• Comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, with exceptional attention to detail.

• Proactive communicator who works effectively across sales, project management, and installation teams.

• Genuine passion for renewable energy and sustainable home heating and cooling solutions.

✅ Must-haves

• 3+ years of work experience with an emphasis on CAD drafting and quality control.

• Proficiency in AutoCAD and spreadsheets.

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.

• Ability and willingness to commute to Kingston, NY weekly for team working sessions.

🌟 Bonus points for:

• Experience with Revit, LoopLink, GLHEPro, or similar geothermal design software.

• Experience in the geothermal, HVAC, or clean tech space.

• PE license or active interest in obtaining PE licensure.

• Prior experience at a startup or company with fewer than 1,000 employees.
