Job Description:

Orbital Engineering, Inc. is currently seeking an Entry-Level GIS Technician I.  This role will require occasional travel as needed. This GIS Technician I role will report directly to the GIS Director or a GIS Project Manager within the Technology and Innovation Department (TIN Group). We are focused on candidates who have foundational GIS knowledge and skills, preferably in energy and utilities.

 

In addition to technical GIS skills, the ideal candidate will possess excellent written and oral communication skills, customer service skills, and the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To

  • Assist in the aggregation, organization, and analysis of spatial data from various sources including shapefiles, excel spreadsheets, and KMZ files.
  • Support GIS projects by performing geospatial workflows using basic geoprocessing tools.
  • Edit data and send to GIS Analysts for QC for maps and data layers using ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online (AGOL).
  • Collaborate with team members to configure data collection tools, such as ArcGIS Field Maps.
  • Utilize Esri tools to perform basic spatial analysis and support map production for client deliverables.
  • Contribute to the setup and creation of exhibit templates using ArcGIS Pro.
  • Research and utilize publicly available datasets, such as parcel data, to assist in project workflows.
  • Create maps in both 2D and 3D environments using Esri products.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the GIS team and projects.

Minimum Requirements

  • GIS Certificate or higher (bachelor’s degree in geography, GIS, environmental science, or a related field).
  • 0-2 years of relevant GIS work experience.
  • Familiarity with Esri products, including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software applications.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Internship or coursework experience in the energy and utilities sector.
  • Field Maps experience.
  • Previous experience working in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of field data collection workflows and tools.

 

Salary Range:

$50,000 - $62,000 annually (based on experience, qualifications, and location)
