Roles & Responsibilities

  • Proven experience in business development or sales with a strong track record of new client acquisition, ideally within the travel industry.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and negotiation skills with a demonstrated ability to close deals and exceed sales targets.
  • Ability to translate sales strategies into actionable plans and drive substantial business growth, including building and managing a robust pipeline in the travel sector.
  • Fluency in English (additional European languages are a plus) and willingness to travel across the EMEA region.

  • Develop and execute strategic business development plans to exceed regional sales targets and acquire new clients within the OTA, TMC, and broader travel intermediary sectors.
  • Proactively identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities to expand WEX International's market share in the travel vertical, building and nurturing a robust pipeline of clients and decision-makers.
  • Lead negotiations and close deals with travel sector clients; collaborate with product, marketing, and operations to deliver tailored payment solutions; represent WEX at key travel industry events to generate leads.
  • Mentor and potentially scale a high-performing business development team, ensuring onboarding of new accounts and maintaining a sales-driven culture focused on the travel vertical.

About the Team / Role

The Senior Business Development Manager at WEX International will drive strategic new business initiatives to achieve significant growth and market expansion within EMEA. This role is key to securing new revenue streams from complex B2B clients, including Travel, Payments, or other sectors with sophisticated sales cycles.

How you’ll make an impact

  • Develop and execute strategic business development plans to exceed regional sales targets and acquire new clients specifically within the OTA, TMC, and broader travel intermediary sectors.

  • Proactively identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities to expand WEX International's market share within the travel vertical.

  • Build and nurture a robust pipeline of potential clients, partners, and key decision-makers within the travel industry, converting prospects into loyal customers.

  • Lead negotiations and close deals with travel sector clients, demonstrating strong commercial acumen to maximize profitability.

  • Collaborate intensely with product, marketing, and operational teams to craft and deliver compelling, tailored payment solutions that win new business within the travel industry.

  • Represent WEX International at key travel industry events, actively networking to generate leads and promote our solutions to potential clients.

  • Consistently meet and exceed individual and team sales targets.

  • Engage strategically with cross-functional teams to ensure all client needs are met, facilitating successful onboarding of new accounts in the travel sector.

  • Contribute to mentoring and potentially scaling a high-performing business development team, fostering a sales-driven culture focused on the travel vertical.

  • Highly goal-oriented and results-driven, with an unwavering commitment to achieving and exceeding sales targets and business objectives.

  • Demonstrated ability to drive substantial business growth

  • Proven experience in business development or sales with a strong emphasis on new client acquisition 

  • Fluency in English is essential; additional European languages are a significant asset for market expansion but not essential 

  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout the EMEA region to secure new business within the travel sector.
