Requirements:

  • Provides remote respiratory care for CPAP/BiPAP and oxygen patients, including evaluation, initiating consults, and ongoing follow-up per department standards.
  • Audits clinical records for compliance, identifies exceptions needing review, and communicates recommendations to referral sources and physicians; documents accordingly.
  • Educates patients on PAP devices and oxygen therapy, collaborates with the PAP team, and ensures timely communication of recommendations to physicians/referrals and timely acknowledgement of orders.
  • Documents patient care activities electronically, tracks outcomes, supports data collection for reimbursement and quality improvement, and works with peers to resolve issues.

PAP Specialist RT

The PAP Specialist – RT is a certified Respiratory Therapist that is responsible for providing respiratory care over the phone for CPAP/BiPAP and Oxygen patients for optimal outcomes. This position is responsible for auditing clinical records and identifying exceptions that need additional review and consultation based on criteria/compliance. In addition, the PAP Specialist – RT provides education and care to the patient and report recommendations or changes to the referral and physician. Collaborates with other PAP team members to ensure extraordinary care to the patient and referral source.


Job Duties:

  • Uses clinical expertise in evaluating PAP patients and oxygen patients.
  • Begins PAP consult process on new referrals and establishes ongoing follow-up and monitoring needs following department standards and timelines.
  • Maintains proficient knowledge of PAP including compliance software, new technology, units and supplies supported by AHC, and sleep study interpretations.
  • Integrates RT work with PAP team members to assure understanding of when and how to make RT referrals.
  • Demonstrates and instructs on use of PAP units and supplies and oxygen and makes decisions for patients based on compliance data and assessment.
  • Facilitates communications and recommendations to PAP team, physicians, and referral sources ensuring prompt attention to patient care issues.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid and other third-party payer guidelines related to sleep and oxygen therapy.
  • Electronically documents patient care activity, intervention provided, and all communication regarding the patient. Documentation is accurate, complete and follows company standards.
  • Takes appropriate steps to ensures recommendations and orders sent are acknowledged and followed up on in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for accuracy, clarity and timeliness of verbal and written communications as it relates to role.
  • Responsible for documentation that supports data collection to track and trend outcomes.
  • Assists in establishing clinical documentation when needed for third party reimbursement or justification.
  • Uses knowledge in working with referral sources to educate about best practice standards.
  • Works collaboratively and pro-actively with peers and other team members to resolve issues and assure optimum outcomes for patients, referral sources and staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements

Minimum Job Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Must be graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy program
  • Current license/registration by state of hire as a Respiratory Therapist
  • One (1) year respiratory experience, preferably in the DME industry
  • Must have strong experience with CPAP/BiPAP patients
