Roles & Responsibilities

  • CA ANZ qualified (or equivalent) with minimum 5+ years’ experience in public practice or accounting advisory
  • Strong knowledge of New Zealand tax legislation and financial reporting frameworks
  • Advanced proficiency in Xero and other cloud-based accounting tools; proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience handling multi-entity client portfolios

Requirements:

  • Prepare annual financial statements for entities (Companies, Trusts, Partnerships, Charities) in accordance with NZ IFRS/SPFR and NZ Charities Services reporting requirements, with audit-ready workpapers
  • Manage tax compliance by preparing and filing income tax returns; prepare GST and FBT returns; calculate provisional and terminal tax obligations; ensure filings are submitted within statutory deadlines
  • Maintain complete, auditable workpapers with clear documentation and audit trails, ensuring files meet internal practice standards
  • Collaborate with Directors/Partners and internal teams; review outputs to deliver review-ready financial statements and tax filings using Xero and cloud-based tools; identify improvements to client accounting systems and processes

Job description

Position: SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

Salary range: up to Php 86,000+ Philippine Peso (The final amount will be at the the client discretion basing on the candidate’s skills and experience.)

Working Hours: Monday to Friday 9am - 5:30pm NZDT Time including 30 minutes for lunch (4am-12:30nn Philippine Standard Time)

Work set-up: 100% Remote work (Independent Contractor Agreement)

Holidays: New Zealand Public Holidays

Recruitment process: 2 client interviews and one assessment

OVERVIEW

A New Zealand-based accounting and advisory firm provides professional services across financial reporting, tax compliance, and business advisory for a diverse portfolio of clients, including companies, trusts, partnerships, and not-for-profit organisations. The firm is seeking a Senior Accountant to support the delivery of high-quality, review-ready financial statements and tax filings in compliance with NZ financial reporting standards and CA ANZ expectations. This role involves preparing multi-entity financial reports, managing tax compliance obligations, and maintaining accurate, well-documented workpapers using cloud-based accounting systems such as Xero. The successful candidate will work independently while collaborating with Directors and internal teams to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and consistent quality across all deliverables.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

1. Financial Reporting

  • Prepare annual financial statements for a range of entities, including:
    • Companies
    • Trusts
    • Partnerships
    • Charities (Tiers 2–4)
  • Ensure compliance with:
    • NZ IFRS (where applicable)
    • Special Purpose Financial Reporting (SPFR)
    • NZ Charities Services reporting requirements
  • Prepare detailed and well-structured workpapers to support all balances and disclosures

2. Tax Compliance

  • Prepare and file income tax returns across multiple entity types
  • Prepare and review:
    • GST returns
    • FBT returns (where applicable)
  • Calculate and advise on:
    • Provisional tax (standard, estimation, AIM methods)
    • Terminal tax obligations
  • Ensure all tax filings are accurate and submitted within statutory deadlines

3. Workpapers & Documentation

  • Prepare complete, audit-ready digital workpapers using internal systems and document management tools (e.g., FYI Docs)
  • Maintain clear audit trails and proper supporting documentation
  • Ensure all files meet internal practice review standards and professional expectations

4. Systems & Technology

  • Work within core accounting platforms such as Xero and cloud-based tools
  • Review client financial data for completeness and accuracy
  • Recommend improvements to client accounting systems and internal processes where appropriate

5. Quality Assurance & Review Support

  • Deliver outputs that are review-ready for Director/Partner sign-off
  • Respond to review queries promptly and accurately
  • Apply strong professional judgement while maintaining high documentation standards

Requirements

Essential

  • CA ANZ qualified (or equivalent)
