  • 5+ years of recent mortgage underwriting experience (FHA, VA, Conventional, and Bond)
  • Active DE (CHUMS) designation and SAR/LAPP designations required
  • High level of comfort with automated underwriting systems (DU/LP/GUS)
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; ability to translate complex guidelines into actionable feedback for the sales team

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Comprehensive Financial Evaluation: Perform in-depth reviews of income, assets, and borrower profiles. Expertly calculate complex self-employed cash flow and analyze business financial strength.
  • Collateral & Compliance Mastery: Review appraisals for accuracy and acceptability. Ensure all loans meet corporate credit policy, ATR, and Qualified Mortgage (QM) provisions.
  • Data-Driven Decisioning: Provide clear, logical decisions on approvals or denials. Articulate "the why" to Loan Officers and stakeholders with professional clarity and a solution-oriented approach.
  • Integrity & Quality Control: Review transmittals and 1003s for 100% completeness. Identify potential red flags and fraud risks early to protect company and secondary market standards.
  • Expert Research: Actively monitor updates to GSE, HUD, VA, and USDA guidelines to remain the internal subject matter expert on evolving regulations.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience: 5+ years of recent mortgage underwriting experience (FHA, VA, Conventional, and Bond).
  • Designations: Active DE (CHUMS) and SAR/LAPP designations are required.
  • Tech Mastery: High level of comfort with modern automated underwriting systems (DU/LP/GUS) 
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written skills; ability to translate complex guidelines into actionable feedback for the sales team.
