Job description

Senior Software Engineer

At Senra Systems, we're solving one of manufacturing's hardest software problems: enabling fully configurable, high-throughput electrical wire harness production on the factory floor. Our platform spans real-time factory execution, complex configuration engines, rich customer-facing web interfaces, and high-integrity data models β€” all in service of solving the problem no one else has cracked: how to scale skilled assembly.

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer who thinks at the systems level, owns complex work end-to-end, and actively raises the engineers around them. This is a highly collaborative role: you will work closely with senior engineering leadership, serve as an architectural voice on hard problems, and help raise the engineers around you. We're looking for someone equally motivated by what they ship and what it means for the product and team.

Salary is based on experience, with a base in the $150,000 to $200,000 range, plus equity and full benefits. This position is onsite/hybrid preferred at our Redondo Beach, CA headquarters; open to remote for the right candidate. Pacific Time zone required.

Responsibilities:

  • Own complex subsystems end-to-end β€” from identifying the right architectural approach through delivery and long-term stability
  • Act as a second architectural voice: evaluate tradeoffs, identify the right tools for the job, and push back when needed
  • Spot cross-scope patterns and systemic issues before they compound; drive improvements without being asked
  • Unblock and level up teammates through pairing, code review, and mentorship
  • Clarify ambiguous work and turn it into actionable plans with minimal hand-holding
  • Deliver complex initiatives predictably; flag technical and deadline risks early and drive mitigation
  • Write production-ready code with strong testing, reliability, and performance awareness
  • Troubleshoot cross-stack issues methodically and resolve root causes, not symptoms
  • Think like a product owner: understand the user's job-to-be-done and push for outcomes, not just implementations
  • Partner with Product to refine scope, surface UX gaps, and address issues before they reach customers
  • Participate in hiring and onboarding; help raise the technical bar for future hires
  • Participate in on-call rotation

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of engineering experience with a track record of owning complex, ambiguous work end-to-end
  • Systems-level thinker: you see downstream impacts, identify the right architectural approach, and understand how your work fits the larger picture
  • Strong judgment on design tradeoffs; comfortable pushing back and advocating for the right solution
  • Proven mentorship instinct β€” you naturally level up the engineers around you
  • Highly collaborative; you keep teammates unblocked and invest in team outcomes, not just your own tickets
  • Deep full-stack comfort across backend, frontend, and data layers
  • Clear communicator; surfaces blockers and risks early without prompting
  • High ownership: you follow through and hold the bar for yourself and your team

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Ruby on Rails, TypeScript, React, Python, and PostgreSQL (or equivalent modern stack)
  • Strong data modeling skills; experience with complex, high-integrity production schemas
  • Experience building highly interactive, visually rich browser-based tools
  • Performance optimization and DevOps/infrastructure experience β€” a strong plus
  • AWS cloud experience (IAM, RDS, EC2, S3); familiarity with CI/CD and observability tooling is a plus
  • Domain experience in manufacturing, MES, factory operations, or complex logistics
  • Background at an early-stage startup where you moved fast and owned outcomes broadly
