As one of the world's largest solar research institutes, the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE makes a substantial contribution to sustainable, economical, safe, and socially just energy supply worldwide. Our goal is to advance the energy transition with concrete, implementable technological solutions - through excellent research results, successful industry collaborations, and startup spin-offs. To this end, we conduct research with our around 1,300 employees in the four focus areas: energy generation, energy distribution, energy storage, and energy use. The Fraunhofer ISE's state-of-the-art R&D infrastructure, with 22,300 m² of laboratory space, enables top-tier research at an international level.
Be part of change
Our department "Sustainable Synthesis Products" at Fraunhofer ISE is focused on the Power-to-Liquids concept, which involves the conversion of "green" hydrogen from renewable electricity into sustainable energy carriers, chemicals, and fuels. In addition to efficient transport and storage properties, liquid energy carriers offer an alternative to fossil energy sources in sectors that rely on the use of carbon-based fuels. For the energy-efficient and economical production of sustainable synthesis products, our group investigates innovative process concepts based on the raw materials CO2 and hydrogen in laboratory and pilot plants.
For our group "Synthesis Products: Separation and Production Technologies" we are looking for a student assistant with the opportunity to write a bachelor, master or diploma thesis on the topic "Simulation of reaction and separation processes in the Power-to-Liquids context" for the following tasks:
- You will work in a team of students and engineers.
- Your tasks will initially include literature research and familiarization with the required reaction and process engineering aspects.
- You will familiarize yourself with the Matlab or Aspen Plus software.
- You will model various process engineering processes (e.g. reaction, distillation, absorption) for the production of hydrogen carriers or sustainable fuels.
- You evaluate the investigated processes on the basis of your simulation results
- Optionally, you will also consider economic aspects.
- You will present your results to our group and optionally summarize them in your final thesis.
What you contribute
- You are studying process engineering, chemical engineering or a degree with a technical or scientific background.
- You have knowledge in the field of process engineering, ideally in thermodynamics and reaction engineering.
- Experience with the simulation of chemical processes is an advantage but not essential.
- You work independently and with commitment.
- You are experienced in using Microsoft Office.
- You can express yourself confidently in German or English.
What we offer
- Exclusive insight: By working together with the scientists in our department, you will gain insights into the day-to-day research and development work at a research institute.
- Laboratory infrastructure: At Fraunhofer ISE, we work with state-of-the-art equipment and devices so that research projects can be carried out using the latest technology.
- Research mix: You will have the opportunity to combine experimental work with theory, thus applying and expanding the knowledge you gained during your studies.
- Supervision: You will be supervised by scientists during your work and receive feedback on your progress.
- Teamwork: You will gain experience in working in a team with our scientific and student staff and can contribute the experience you have already gained.
- Working hours and location: We offer you the opportunity to flexibly adjust your working hours to your needs and to occasionally work from home.
- Equal opportunities: We value equal opportunities and embrace diversity.
- After work: Celebrate yourself and your colleagues at after-work events or our annual employee parties.
Remuneration is based on the degree of the academic qualification.
We value and promote the diversity of our employees' skills and therefore welcome all applications – regardless of age, gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion, ideology, disability, sexual orientation and identity. Severely disabled persons are given preference in the event of equal suitability.
Ready for a change? Then apply now with your compelling application documents (including CV, cover letter, and references/performance records) and make a difference! Once we have received your online application, you will receive an automatic confirmation of receipt. We will then get back to you as soon as possible and let you know what happens next.
