Description

Join our team as a 2026 Summer Emerging Leader Intern! We are seeking three part-time Interns for a 7-week paid internship in the Houston, TX area from June 15 to July 31, 2026. This is a unique opportunity for undergraduates to gain hands-on experience in green banking and clean energy financing while working on projects that support the organization as it continues to grow and impact communities across Texas.

As Texas's pioneering nonprofit green bank, Clean Energy Fund of Texas (CEFTX) is transforming how clean energy solutions reach communities across our state. We bridge financial gaps and create opportunities for smart investments in energy efficiency, solar, and wind power, making sustainable energy both accessible and affordable for Texans.

We’re driving economic opportunity and energy resilience where it matters most, in low-to-moderate income and underserved communities that often face barriers to adopting clean energy solutions. Through innovative financing solutions and strategic partnerships, we’re empowering families, businesses, and communities to participate in Texas’s clean energy transition.


What You’ll Do

As an Emerging Leader Intern, you'll work directly with experienced professionals on defined, impactful projects related to clean energy financing and sustainable development. Our program provides:

  • Real-world experience in green banking and clean energy project development
  • Understanding of financing mechanisms that support an equitable energy transition
  • Professional skills development in research, analysis, and communication
  • Networking opportunities with industry professionals

Each intern will be paired with a dedicated mentor who provides guidance, feedback, and professional development support throughout the program.


Projects:

Interns will be matched with one of the following projects based on their skills and interests:


Event Planning & Coordination 

  • Support with outreach activities related to targeted contractor Lunch-and-Learns, webinars, and related events 
  • Review and manage event registration data to identify gaps or inconsistencies
  • Deliverables: Event coordination playbook, communication templates, and engagement analysis

Residential Lending Data Project

  • Lead data cleaning and validation across program datasets to improve reporting and decision-making.
  • Deliverables: Clean datasets and documentation framework

Commercial Program Automation

  • Develop a prototype tool to streamline credit memo creation and identify underwriting risks
  • Deliverables: Workflow documentation and prototype tool

Texas Water Programs & Grants

  • Support in drafting, marketing, and evaluating Request for Information to help identify water projects or partners for the organization
  • Identify partner identification and grant development
  • Deliverables: Documentation and Request for Information playbook

Core Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate student
  • Excellent organization, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office and collaborative work tools
  • Passionate about clean energy, sustainability, and equity

Program Details

  • Duration: 7 weeks 
  • Hours: 20 hours per week 
  • Compensation: $2,100 total ($15/hour) 
  • Location: Hybrid (primarily remote with potential of in-person meetings in Houston)
