API Developer Intern (Remote Opportunity) at VetsEZ

We are currently looking for a remote API Developer Intern to support a large federal government project. This role is designed for students or recent graduates in Computer Science or related fields who want hands-on experience in modern API development and exposure to healthcare IT systems. You’ll gain real-world skills working alongside experienced developers, with opportunities to learn tools like Git, Postman, and Jira, while contributing to meaningful projects.

This role is advantageous for students as VetsEZ can support both full-time and part-time schedules. The candidate must reside within the continental US.

Responsibilities:

• Design, code, test, and debug RESTful APIs using modern programming practices.
• Collaborate with senior developers and technical teams to support software development initiatives.
• Learn and become proficient with tools and technologies, including Git, version control, JSON, and API testing tools.
• Assist in maintaining code documentation and version control processes.
• Support Agile development practices and participate in sprint planning and reviews.
• Engage in problem-solving and troubleshooting for development challenges.
• Contribute to team objectives and take on additional responsibilities as needed.

Requirements:

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
• Basic experience with object-oriented programming (e.g., Java, Python) and either RESTful APIs or SQL (all three preferred).
• Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-stakeholder, Agile, and DevSecOps environment.
• Must be able to obtain a Federal Government clearance (VetsEZ will assist in this process).

Additional Qualifications:

• Exposure to Git and version control is a plus.
• Experience with JSON and API testing tools (e.g., Postman, Swagger) is a plus.
• Familiarity with Jira or other Agile project management tools is a plus.
