  • Build and optimize data models, including advanced DAX measures, calculated columns, and time intelligence; perform ETL using Power Query and M language; manage Power BI Service (workspaces, gateway, scheduled refreshes, and RLS)
  • Collaborate with Finance and business teams to understand financial context and provide insights into metrics such as gross margin, EBITDA, utilization, power BI cost-to-serve, and project profitability; act as SME for financial reporting systems and Power BI best practices

Position Summary
The Power BI Developer will join the Finance team to design, build, and maintain the company’s financial reporting infrastructure. This is a specialized role requiring both advanced Power BI expertise and solid financial domain knowledge, including experience with accounting or PSA systems. The role involves integrating data from Halo (PSA), Xero (Accounting), Float, and HubSpot to provide real-time insights into gross margin, utilization, customer profitability, and divisional performance. The position reports directly to the Finance Director and plays a key role in enabling data-driven decision-making across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports that provide real-time visibility of financial and operational performance.

• Translate complex financial data into actionable insights for Finance and business stakeholders.

• Integrate and consolidate data from multiple sources, including accounting platforms (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, NetSuite) and PSA/project management tools (Halo, ConnectWise, Autotask, Datto).

• Build and optimize data models, ensuring accuracy, scalability, and performance in Power BI.

• Develop advanced DAX measures, calculated columns, and time intelligence calculations.

• Perform ETL processes using Power Query and M language to clean, transform, and prepare data for reporting.

• Manage Power BI Service: workspace setup, gateway configuration, scheduled refreshes, and role-level security (RLS).

• Support SQL-based data operations including queries, joins, views, and stored procedures.

• Collaborate with Finance and other business teams to understand financial context and provide insights into metrics such as gross margin, EBITDA, utilization, Power BI cost-to-serve, and project profitability.

• Act as a subject matter expert for financial reporting systems and Power BI best practices.

Qualifications & Experience

• 3–5 years of hands-on experience in Power BI development.

• Strong proficiency in advanced DAX, Power Query (ETL/M language), and data modeling (star schema, relationships, performance optimization).

• Solid experience with SQL (T-SQL queries, joins, views, stored procedures).

• Experience integrating accounting platforms (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, NetSuite) and PSA/project management tools (Halo, ConnectWise, Autotask, Datto) into unified reporting models.

• Demonstrated ability to gather requirements from business stakeholders and translate them into actionable reporting solutions.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret financial data and provide meaningful insights.

• Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining technical concepts to finance teams and financial concepts to technical teams.

• Self-starter able to work independently with guidance from the Finance Director.
