Transmission & Distribution Engineer Lead
Position Summary
The Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Engineer Lead at Vantage Point Solutions provides technical leadership and engineering expertise for the planning, design, and implementation of electrical transmission and distribution systems. This role focuses on delivering reliable, efficient, and compliant energy infrastructure solutions for utilities, municipalities, and enterprise clients.
The T&D Engineer Lead oversees projects from conceptual design through field implementation, guiding a team of engineers and coordinating with clients to ensure safe, cost-effective, and innovative solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Design & Technical Leadership
- Lead the design and analysis of high-voltage transmission and distribution systems, including substations, feeders, and distribution networks.
- Develop engineering specifications, plans, and construction drawings aligned with industry standards and client requirements.
- Conduct system modeling, load flow analysis, fault studies, and short-circuit calculations to ensure safe and reliable operations.
- Review and approve designs prepared by internal teams or external contractors.
Project Management & Execution
- Oversee T&D projects from feasibility studies and design through construction, commissioning, and closeout.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with technical, regulatory, and safety standards.
- Collaborate with clients, contractors, and field teams to resolve engineering issues and optimize project outcomes.
- Provide guidance on material selection, equipment specifications, and construction methods.
Regulatory Compliance & Safety
- Ensure designs and project execution comply with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as utility standards.
- Incorporate safety best practices into all engineering designs and field operations.
- Assist clients in meeting regulatory reporting and compliance requirements for transmission and distribution systems.
Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers, drafters, and technical staff, fostering technical growth and professional development.
- Promote collaboration, knowledge sharing, and adherence to engineering best practices.
- Support internal training programs and initiatives to maintain a high-performing T&D engineering team.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to recommend innovative solutions for transmission and distribution systems.
- Implement process improvements to enhance engineering efficiency, accuracy, and client satisfaction.
Impact
- Ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient design and operation of transmission and distribution networks.
- Strengthens VPS’s reputation as a trusted partner for utilities and enterprise clients.
- Develops a high-performing engineering team capable of executing complex, multi-faceted projects.
- Contributes to infrastructure modernization and resilience across client networks.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in transmission and distribution system engineering.
- Strong knowledge of power system analysis, protection, and design standards.
- Experience with load flow analysis, fault studies, and system modeling.
- Proven leadership and team management experience.

- Ability and willingness to perform field work, including walking on uneven or rough terrain, visiting active construction sites, and working in varying weather conditions.
Preferred:
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
- Experience with utility-scale projects and renewable energy integration.
- Familiarity with GIS mapping, SCADA systems, and smart grid technologies.
- Project management experience with multi-state or large-scale T&D networks.
- Experience supporting and collaborating with rural electric cooperatives .
