Requirements:

  • Process payroll expenditures for posting to the general ledger and Oracle Grants Administration modules, including specialized Labor Distribution transactions.
  • Perform Labor Distribution (LD) testing and settings in the Oracle LD module; develop, test, and implement LD reports in the data warehouse.
  • Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts, monitor payroll suspense, and process LD adjustments as needed.
  • Provide payroll financial analysis, respond to audit requests, develop policies/procedures, train and support LD Adjustor users, and collaborate with ITG teams to maintain LD functionality.

Job description

Department Overview:

This position is in the Payroll Service Center department, within OHSU Finance.

 

OHSU Finance is the division within Oregon Health & Science University charged with the overall responsibility of accurately processing, reporting, and interpreting the university's financial transactions. We support healing, teaching, discovery, and outreach at OHSU by delivering quality financial information and services to the institution, its sponsors, and the community.

 

The Payroll Service Center functions include timekeeping, payroll processing, Labor Distribution (LD) and payroll reporting. The Finance and Accounting Analyst 2 position within the Payroll Service Center is responsible for processing the payroll expenditures and posting to the General Ledger and the Oracle Grants Administration modules. Duties include LD testing and settings within the Oracle LD module, development, testing and implementation of LD reports within the data warehouse, processing vendor disbursements, reconciling applicable liability accounts, payroll accounting analysis, training and supporting LD Adjustor users, responding to audit requests. This position is responsible for ensuring high-quality service delivery and operational excellence for all Payroll LD items.

Function/Duties of Position:
  • Process payroll expenditures for posting to the general ledger and Oracle Grants Administration modules for OHSU and OHS Foundation. Process specialized transactions in the Labor Distribution module.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts for payroll including payroll taxes and vendor payments on a monthly basis.

  • Monitor and report on payroll suspense. Process LD adjustments as needed, to ensure appropriate recording of payroll expenditures.
  • Collaborates with the ITG Oracle team and the ITG Business Intelligence team in developing, testing and implementing LD functionality, maintains LD related tables within the Oracle LD module.
  • Independent performance of payroll financial analysis and evaluation in cases of a complex or unusual nature, preparing presentations for and making recommendations to unit leaders.
  • Financial Transactions/Reports: Applies knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and interpretation of the applicable GASB / FASB standards to prepare payroll/LD journal entries and financial analysis of above average complexity. 
  • Runs complex ad hoc data queries to analyze LD Payroll data of a complex nature. May make modifications to the parameters within these queries. Develops queries/reports for distribution to others.
  • Provide high quality customer service in assisting users to better understand transactions and available reports in the LD module.  Respond timely to customer questions and issues.
  • Develops policies and procedures.  Performs process reviews and recommends improvements. Builds training materials and provides users with training and support on payroll LD items.
  • Responds to audit requests regarding payroll accounting and LD.
  • Attends classes and uses related resources to maintain current on payroll accounting, financial analysis, policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Two years of experience in Payroll accounting.
  • Experience with payroll LD testing.
  • Experience processing payroll labor distribution accounting; experience with balance sheet account reconciliation.

  • Advanced spreadsheet skills, including complex functions, formulas, and formatting.

  • Experience with relational databases.  

  • Understanding of financial reporting concepts such as cost accounting and net present value analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • CPA designation.
  • Experience with Oracle financial software and/or Oracle Payroll.
  • Prior Academic Health Center or relevant financial specific experience performing LD related functions.
Additional Details:

Fully remote role Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm, with a 30-minute meal break and applicable rest breaks.
