Job Overview: As the Director for the Midwest Region, you will serve as a dual-contributor leader—driving regional business expansion while maintaining a high standard of technical excellence in forensic engineering.  Engineering expertise may be called upon by the consulting & design teams. You are responsible for the strategic oversight of a multi-state territory, leading a team of experts to meet corporate KPIs, and personally executing high-stakes forensic investigations. This role requires a rare blend of executive presence, technical rigor, and the physical stamina to conduct field inspections in challenging environments.

Regional Stewardship:

Lead and grow the client and staff base across Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Ohio, and Wisconsin, and West Virgina. (note that any territory that overlaps with an existing non-compete agreement will be paused until July 2, 2026).

  • Business Development: Drive revenue through initiative-taking business development, cross-selling segment-wide capabilities, and represent the firm at client meetings/events, industry conferences, and trade shows. Prepare proposals and presentations, as necessary. Contribute to business planning, budgeting, and align operational outcomes with segment and corporate goals.
  • Talent Management: Oversee the recruitment, selection, and onboarding and retention of engineering staff. You will provide direct mentorship and technical training for civil/structural personnel to ensure a high-performing regional team. Coordinate assignment distribution within the region.
  • Operational Excellence: Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), manage assignment distribution, and proactively resolve customer relations issues to maintain high satisfaction levels. Collaborate with personnel across the segment including but not limited to leadership, staff, business development, and marketing teams.

Technical & Investigative Excellence:

  • Forensic Investigations and Engineering Design: Conduct independent, scientifically rigorous investigations into structural failures, material defects, and product malfunctions.  Contribute to consulting and design division projects as needed.
  • Expert Testimony: Serve as a subject matter expert in legal proceedings, delivering clear, concise, and defensible findings to legal teams and insurance stakeholders.
  • Peer Review: Function as the final line of technical defense by conducting peer reviews of reports and inspections for junior staff, ensuring all regional output meets industry-leading standards.
  • Evidence Analysis: Utilize the scientific method to collect and interpret data from failure scenes, translating complex engineering principles into actionable safety recommendations.

Thought Leadership & Industry Impact:

  • Sector Expertise: Maintain a leading-edge understanding of emerging trends, technological advancements, and evolving design methodologies within forensic engineering.
  • Public Advocacy: Actively contribute to the field’s body of knowledge by authoring technical white papers and delivering expert presentations at premier industry conferences and events.
  • Standard Setting: Drive the development and implementation of strategic initiatives aimed at prevention of failure and the elevation of regional safety and engineering standards.
  • Other Duties: Other duties as assigned and necessary to advance the region and segment.

Physical Demands & Field Requirements:

This is a "working director" role that may require participation in new or ongoing field investigations. Candidates must be capable of:

  • High-Access Inspections: Climbing for height access as needed.
  • Environmental Resilience: Withstanding extreme temperatures and weather conditions during outdoor inspections as needed.
  • Lifting: Carrying forensic tools, fall protection gear, and access ladders that may weigh up to 35 lbs.
