Data Scientist 2 – VICTR

JOB SUMMARY
In your pivotal role of Data Scientist 2, you will make big-data discoveries, build the resources necessary to enable those discoveries, and coordinate data-related activities of the project team(s). Work closely with research informatics faculty and staff to expand and create innovative big data resources to enable data-driven translational science. Identify appropriate resources needed and develop schedules to ensure timely completion of project(s). Find insights in data, as well as solve related medium to complex problems.

You will work Monday-Friday, traditional daytime business hours at our office on 2525 West End Ave. in Nashville, TN, though remote work may also be a consideration.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build a solid data foundation in order to perform robust analytics.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams to design, develop, and recommend new approaches for data-driven decision-making.
  • Guide and educate data science teams to provide unbiased and accurate information, analysis, consultation, and recommendations to support strategic and operational data science initiatives.
  • Make strategic recommendations on data collection, integration and retention requirements, incorporating business requirements and knowledge of best practices.
  • Build machine learning pipelines and personalized data products.
  • Advise leadership on implications of the data for products, processes and decisions.
  • Develop and implement reproducible cross-validation frameworks to evaluate machine learning and artificial intelligence models across heterogeneous datasets and computing environments

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES

INFRASTRUCTURE (INTERMEDIATE)

  • Identify the data-analytics problems that offer the greatest opportunities. Determine the correct data sets and variables. Collect large sets of structured and unstructured data from disparate sources. Clean and validate the data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and uniformity. Devise and applies models and algorithms to mine the stores of big data. Analyze the data to identify patterns and trends. Interpret the data to discover solutions and opportunities. 

ANALYSIS AND TESTING (INTERMEDIATE)

  • Bring structure to large quantities of formless data and make analysis possible. Identify rich data sources, join them with other, potentially incomplete data sources, clean the resulting set and validate the data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and uniformity. Identify trends, correlations, and high-level characteristics to detect key insights and make predictions.  Find a story within a data set and provide a coherent narrative about key data insights.

DATA PRODUCTS (INTERMEDIATE)

  • Use machine learning and artificial intelligence to turn massive data streams produced by operations into insights. Use programming languages such as Python, R, SQL, and Jupyter for statistics, mathematics, algorithms, modeling, data visualization, and reproducible research and reporting.  Use cloud computing, cloud-based services and APIs for data storage and access, machine learning, and artificial intelligence (AI).

COMMUNICATION (NOVICE)

  • Deliver data to internal and external customers in the form of dashboards, reports, and emails. Effectively communicate technical and business ideas and information to others, including non-technical audiences in writing, with numbers, verbally and/or visually. Share knowledge, ideas and information openly, and effectively sell new ideas and influence others.
