Title: Senior Automation (UiPath) Engineer

The Senior Automation Engineer will be a key contributor to a newly established automation team responsible for designing, building, and maintaining automations across all parts of the business. The company is shifting to an automation first/AI-first approach. This role operates with a high degree of independence and is expected to work from minimal requirements, identifying opportunities to streamline processes, integrate systems, and improve data flow through intelligent automation. A successful candidate will have deep technical knowledge and be able to use scripting, APIs and AI to automate processes on cloud-based applications, both internal and external to EdgeConneX.

This position will leverage enterprise automation and integration platforms such as UiPath, MuleSoft, and cloud-base databases to deliver scalable, reliable, and secure automation solutions. The role partners closely with business, IT, and data stakeholders while maintaining ownership of technical design and implementation.  This is a very hands-on role that will continue to be over the course of the next 2-3 years.  Serving as a hands-on Lead over a very small team is the expectation.  While a very technical role, this will require a real maturity to work though the stress of a fast-paced environment for a growing company experiencing growing pains.

This position reports to the VP of Corporate Functions and Enterprise Systems. This position would be ideally based in our Herndon, VA HQ with the flexibility to collaborate in a hybrid manner where working remotely 1-2 days per week would be the norm. The candidate must be capable of global travel and will likely travel 3-4 weeks per year.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy automations that support business processes across finance, operations, IT, and other enterprise functions.
  • Work independently from minimal functional requirements and ambiguity to define automation approaches, system integrations, and technical solutions between enterprise systems (both homegrown and commercial).
  • Build and maintain integrations using APIs and middleware platforms such as MuleSoft.
  • Discerning which platform might make the most sense, quickly design and develop intelligent process automations and workflows using LC/NC tools such as Alteryx, Blue Prism, UiPath, Power Automate, Workiva.
  • Design and interact with relational and noSQL databases, including Azure SQL, to support automation logic, persistence, and reporting.
  • Apply system architecture principles to ensure automations are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with enterprise standards.
  • Support and implement master data management concepts to ensure data consistency and integrity across automated processes.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify automation opportunities and continuously improve business efficiency.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize deployed automations to ensure reliability and performance.
  • Document automation designs, data flows, and integration patterns to support long‑term maintainability.
  • Architect new data automation solutions or enhancements for existing solutions

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to manage cross-functional teams to explore solutions to business problems.
  • Extensive experience with automation and integration tools. Some examples include but are not limited to UiPath, MuleSoft, and Zapier Enterprise.
  • Strong foundation of product management, including prioritization and documentation of requirements.
  • Strong experience designing and consuming APIs for system integration.
  • Practical experience with scripting
  • Solid understanding of relational databases and SQL, including Azure SQL or equivalent platforms.
  • Strong system architecture skills, with the ability to design end‑to‑end automated solutions.
  • Understanding of master data management principles and enterprise data consistency.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical solutions to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple initiatives and deliver solutions in a fast‑paced environment.

Experience/Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 10+ years of overall IT Engineering experience with 5+ years of professional experience in automation engineering and systems integration leading end-to-end automation of enterprise software
  • Track record of designing for scale and availability
  • Dev certification on an RPA platform (UiPath highly preferred).
  • Direct hands-on experience working in enterprise software environments supporting multiple business functions.
