Roles & Responsibilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Natural Resources, Wildlife Biology, Environmental Science or a related field; 0-3 years of environmental work (pre-construction experience preferred).
  • Ability to understand and comply with local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and permitting processes in the Pacific Northwest (Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Washington), with environmental compliance experience on transmission line/utility projects.
  • Knowledge of SWPPP, SPCC, and MBTA programs; CESCL certification preferred.
  • Comfortable working in both office and field environments with strong communication skills; proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe applications, GPS data collection; ability to travel up to ~20% and work with minimal supervision.

Requirements:

  • Inspect construction activities for environmental compliance with permits and landowner agreements; conduct preconstruction surveys and document pre-existing conditions.
  • Perform stormwater inspections, noxious weed management, installation and planning for stormwater BMPs, sensitive species monitoring, dust control, spill prevention/cleanup verification, and reclamation/revegetation monitoring.
  • Coordinate with construction crews on compliance issues, lead site-specific environmental reviews and orientations, and implement project plans; coordinate corrective actions with Environmental Lead.
  • Compile daily/weekly environmental reports and collect data using computers, tablets, and GPS; support Environmental Lead with data analysis and reporting.

Job description

Overview:

Energy Environmental Group (EEG) is a nationwide provider of environmental inspection, compliance, planning, and permitting services for energy infrastructure, oil and gas, mining, transportation, and commercial development projects. EEG staff consist of environmental planners, scientists, wildlife biologists, compliance specialists, GIS experts, drone pilots, and more. As a division of MasTec (NYSE: MTZ), one of the world’s largest providers of infrastructure services, EEG is certified as a minority-controlled company by the National Minority Suppliers Development Council (NMSDC). Primary duties for this position would include supporting the Project Manager with planning/coordination of permits associated with the construction of a transmission line project in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana.

Responsibilities:
  • The Environmental Specialist will inspect construction activities for overall environmental compliance related to the Projects right-of-way in accordance with permits and landowner agreements.
  • Will conduct preconstruction surveys prior to ground disturbance and document pre-existing conditions.
  • Will perform stormwater inspections, noxious weed monitoring/management, installation and planning for stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs), sensitive species monitoring, monitoring for dust control management and Spill Prevention/Spill cleanup verification, reclamation/revegetation monitoring as well as any other required environmental compliance monitoring related to the Transmission Line and Substation Projects.
  • Ensure the installation of flagging, and signage per project requirements to delineate environmentally sensitive areas.
  • Will need to implement project plans, conduct environmental orientations, and lead Site-Specific Environmental Review discussions with construction personnel.
  • Will coordinate with construction crews on all potential and existing compliance issues and coordinate with Environmental Lead to determine appropriate corrective actions.
  • Will compile daily/weekly environmental reports and provide them to the Environmental Lead for review.
  • Utilize computers, tablets and GPS units to perform data collection and analysis for the project
Qualifications:
  • 0-3 years of Environmental work, preferred in pre-construction
  • Bachelor's Degree in Natural Resources, Wildlife Biology, Environmental Science or related field of study.
  • Ability to understand and comply with relevant local, state and federal laws, regulations, and permitting processes in the Pacific Northeast (Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Washington).
  • Environmental Compliance experience associated with transmission line/utility construction projects
  • Must be comfortable in both an office and field environment, as assignment priorities may change
  • Strong working knowledge of Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), Spill Prevention Control Countermeasures (SPCC) and Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA) programs
  • Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (CESCL) preferred
  • Strong written and communication skills required
  • Comfortable with public speaking
  • Able to work flexible hours & travel estimated 20% of the time
  • Ability to work and perform tasks with minimal supervision
  • Able to interact effectively with internal and external clients
  • Ability to work outside in varying weather conditions
  • Strong computer skills, a significant understanding of Microsoft office and Adobe applications. Able to collect and process GPS data from project surveys. Preferred understanding of Procore applications.
  • US citizenship and valid driver’s license is required for operation of 4WD drive vehicles and travel
