Requirements:

  • Direct the strategic planning, development, and implementation of the CHAMPS program; act as liaison and spokesperson to committees and partner organizations; assist with policy formulation, strategy development, and daily operations; supervise staff as needed.
  • Lead the CHAMPS site management workstream across eight countries, coordinate monthly meetings, communicate site priorities across program units, monitor and evaluate site-level activities, and build capacity for ME systems and data-driven reporting.
  • Oversee internal Program Office communication and teamwork, including monthly site status meetings, status reporting, operational planning, and cross-functional coordination across Program Office units.
  • Plan and coordinate meetings and working groups, including biannual CHAMPS Network Meeting, technical working groups, and expert panel meetings, ensuring follow-up and knowledge sharing.

The Senior Associate Director, Programs provides strategic leadership in the planning, development, and execution of program initiatives. This role serves as a key liaison and spokesperson, engaging with internal and external stakeholders, including committees and partner organizations. The position supports policy development, drives strategic priorities, and oversees day-to-day program operations. The Senior Associate Director may collaborate with private, government, and international partners, lead research efforts, develop new initiatives, and contribute to publishable materials. This role may also include supervision of staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs the strategic planning, development, and implementation of a program.
  • Serves as a liaison and key spokesperson to various committees and organizations.
  • Responds to inquiries and assists in promoting the program.
  • Assists with policy formulation, strategy development, and the management of daily operations.
  • May collaborate with representatives from private, government, and international agencies.
  • Conducts research, designs new initiatives, and writes publishable articles and papers.
  • May supervise staff.

Primary Responsibilities:

 

The Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance program was launched in 2015 to generate data on definitive causes of child deaths in high-burden regions in Africa and South Asia. The Senior Associate Director, Site Management position is in the Science, Site Strategy, and Implementation Unit  (S3I) within CHAMPS Program Office, and reports to the Deputy Director for Science, Site Strategy, and Implementation. This role coordinates site management activities, supports monitoring and strengthening of site performance, facilitates internal communication within the CHAMPS Program Office, and manages planning and coordination for key meetings and working groups.

 

Site Management and Performance Monitoring (65%):

  • Lead the CHAMPS site management workstream supporting teams across eight countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia, including planning and facilitating monthly coordination meetings, communicating site priorities across program units, and tracking follow-up on key action items.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for site coordinators and project managers, ensuring consistent communication, operational alignment, and timely resolution of site needs.
  • Oversee monitoring and evaluation (M&E) frameworks for CHAMPS site-level programmatic activities to ensure alignment with network objectives and donor requirements.
  • Help to build capacity for project and partner staff on the design and implementation of M&E systems, data-driven program management, and results reporting.
  • Produce and analyze program indicator reports to monitor progress against key performance metrics.
  • Collaborate with S3I leadership and program office workstreams to develop and implement program performance improvement plans as needed.
  • Support the coordination of the CHAMPS Roundtable and development of cross-network learning to strengthen knowledge sharing and best practices across sites.

 

Internal Program Office Communication and Teamwork (20%)

  • Lead and facilitate monthly site status meetings to review site progress and challenges.
  • Contribute to program management functions within the CHAMPS Program Office, including status reporting, operational planning, and strategic program coordination.
  • Participate in the development of the S3I strategic plan
  • Coordinate closely with all Program Office units to address site-related issues, ensure cross-functional alignment, and support efficient program implementation.

 

Meeting and Working Group Coordination and Planning (15%)

  • Manage program planning of the biannual CHAMPS Network Meeting, including agenda development, stakeholder coordination, and logistical assistance to support effective cross-site collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Coordinate Network-wide technical working groups, supporting meeting facilitation, documentation, and follow-up to advance priority initiatives.
  • Coordinate expert panel meetings, including scheduling, materials preparation, and communication with subject matter experts.

 

TRAVEL: Up to 15% International travel

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a field related to the program and seven years of professional experience related to the program and previous supervisory and program/project management experience, OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
  • Master's degree preferred.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Sociology, or a related discipline
  • 5+ years working in global public health
  • Substantial experience working in low-income countries, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa or Southeast Asia
  • Effective writing, presentation, and organizational skills
  • Experience managing and executing multiple projects and with with multi-site stakeholders
  • Highly analytical and experienced with project coordination
  • Ability to use problem-solving skills to foresee obstacles and make strategic decisions.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs.  Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
