O que você fará:
This role is responsible for designing, building, enhancing, and operating Avalara's SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA connectors built using Java or similar backend technologies. These connectors power compliance-critical integrations between enterprise SAP ERP systems and Avalara's AvaTax platform, processing high-volume transactional and financial data across Procure-to-Pay (P2P), Order-to-Cash (O2C), and Record to Report (R2R) workflows.
You will play a key role in strengthening and modernizing a strategic SAP integration platform that supports enterprise customers running complex tax and compliance operations. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on building reliable, scalable, and enterprise-grade integration services.
Quais serão as suas responsabilidades:
SAP Connector Engineering & Architecture
- Design, build, and enhance integration services for SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA using Java or comparable backend technologies (e.g., Kotlin, Python, Node.js, etc.)
- Develop and maintain SAP integration logic across key ERP flows, especially Procure-to-Pay, Order-to-Cash, and Record to Report
- Ensure transactional integrity, idempotency, and data consistency across high-volume financial transactions
- Improve connector architecture to increase scalability, performance, and maintainability
- Collaborate with SAP functional experts to align technical implementation with business processes
SAP Integration & ERP Alignment
- Work with SAP ECC and S/4HANA integration points including IDocs, BAPIs, RFCs, OData services, and related interfaces
- Partner with customers and internal teams to diagnose and resolve complex ERP integration issues
- Contribute to solution design that balances SAP configuration, ABAP enhancements (when needed), and middleware capabilities
- Support enterprise customers during implementation, upgrades, and production troubleshooting
Engineering Excellence & Bar Raiser Expectations
- Raise the bar on code quality, test automation, documentation, and peer reviews
- Own operational health including monitoring, alerting, incident response, and root cause analysis
- Improve CI/CD pipelines and automation to increase delivery velocity and reliability
- Proactively identify technical debt and scalability bottlenecks and drive improvements
Collaboration & Ownership
- Work cross-functionally with product, compliance, and support teams
- Contribute to roadmap discussions with a strong understanding of ERP business processes and customer impact
- Support enterprise customers by diagnosing complex integration issues spanning ERP systems, internal services, and data pipelines
- Operate with high accountability and a strong sense of ownership over production systems
AI-First Engineering & Intelligent Automation
- Deliver production-ready AI capabilities within ERP integration workflows
- Apply AI techniques to integration challenges such as transactional anomaly detection, intelligent event classification, and data enrichment
- Integrate LLMs and AI services into existing architecture while maintaining deterministic fallback behavior
- Ensure AI solutions meet production standards for security, observability, cost control, and reliability
Observability & Operational Maturity
- Experience implementing and operating logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting systems (Prometheus, Grafana, or similar)
- Proven ability to diagnose issues across ERP systems, integration services, and downstream data platforms
- Experience supporting production environments with strong ownership mindset
O que precisa possuir para ser bem sucedido:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science
- 4–8+ years of experience building and operating backend systems in production environments
- Experience with backend or integration service development using Java or similar programming languages
- Direct experience with SAP ECC and/or SAP S/4HANA integrations with third-party solutions
Qualifications
- Experience building scalable backend or integration platforms using any modern programming language (Java preferred but not required)
- Experience integrating with ERP or ERP-adjacent systems
- Familiarity with enterprise transactional systems and financial data flows
- Experience with SAP ABAP development (SAP OO, API calls, RFCs, OData services)
- Knowledge of SAP BTP
- Expertise in integrations using REST API and SOAP protocols
- Knowledge of containerized applications
- Familiarity with observability and monitoring
- Working knowledge of Java frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot) is a plus, not mandatory
- Experience working in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Expertise in integration between SAP ERP and third-party solutions
- Experience with e-invoicing, tax compliance, or regulatory reporting is a plus
- Understanding of ERP financial and logistics processes (O2C, P2P, R2R)
