Job description

The MEDITECH Business and Clinical Analytics (BCA) / SQL Programmer is responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and optimizing data solutions within the MEDITECH analytics environment to support clinical, financial, operational, and strategic decision-making across the organization.

This role focuses on building and maintaining SQL-based reports, extracts, dashboards, and reusable data structures using both PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server tools, with emphasis on performance, accuracy, and usability within the MEDITECH Expanse Business and Clinical Analytics (BCA) platform. Development work commonly includes use of DBeaver for PostgreSQL environments and SQL Server Management Studio for Microsoft SQL Server environments.

The programmer collaborates closely with analysts, operational leaders, clinical stakeholders, and technical teams to translate reporting and analytic requirements into scalable data products that support organizational goals.

Core responsibilities include writing and optimizing complex SQL queries, developing views, stored procedures, and supporting data structures within BCA reporting repositories, troubleshooting report logic and performance issues, and ensuring data integrity across reporting solutions. While formal enterprise ETL development may not be a primary responsibility, the role frequently supports data transformation and staging logic through SQL-based methods that simulate ETL processes when needed.

The position also requires strong working knowledge of MEDITECH application architecture beyond BCA, including understanding how source transactional data flows from core MEDITECH applications into reporting structures. A successful candidate must be able to interpret MEDITECH data relationships across clinical, financial, and operational modules and apply that knowledge to report development and issue resolution.

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain BCA reports, dashboards, and ad hoc analytic solutions
  • Write advanced SQL queries in PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server environments
  • Use DBeaver and SQL Server Management Studio to develop, troubleshoot, and validate reporting logic
  • Create and maintain views, stored procedures, and reusable reporting logic
  • Troubleshoot report logic, data discrepancies, and performance concerns
  • Support report validation, testing, and post-upgrade review activities
  • Assist end users in understanding report outputs and effective use of analytic tools
  • Collaborate with application teams, analysts, and operational stakeholders on reporting priorities
  • Support data governance, security standards, and reporting best practices
  • Participate in MEDITECH upgrades, migrations, and enhancement projects as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Strong experience with MEDITECH Business and Clinical Analytics (BCA)
  • Advanced SQL development skills in PostgreSQL and/or Microsoft SQL Server
  • Experience using DBeaver and/or SQL Server Management Studio
  • Strong understanding of MEDITECH data structures and application architecture
  • Ability to analyze reporting requirements and translate them into technical solutions
  • Experience troubleshooting report logic, performance, and data quality issues
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and operational stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting MEDITECH Expanse environments
  • Knowledge of healthcare reporting workflows and regulatory reporting needs
  • Familiarity with stored procedures, indexed views, and SQL performance tuning
  • Understanding of healthcare clinical, financial, and operational datasets
  • Experience supporting report governance and analytic adoption across departments
  • Experience writing reports in MEDITECH NPR and Report Designer
  • Ability to support or troubleshoot legacy MEDITECH reporting workflows when needed
  • Experience deploying and managing reports using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
