  • Oversee the preparation, review, and maintenance of balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and timely resolution of discrepancies
  • Manage payroll processing, payroll journal entries, and payroll variance analysis, and support headcount reporting and cross-functional financial insights

Summary:

The Assistant Controller will play a critical role managing day-to-day accounting operations for a growing, multi-site clinical research network. This individual will oversee and actively participate in a timely and accurate monthly close, consolidation, and financial reporting processes. The hands-on role is responsible for transactional accounting and reporting. The individual has a strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and maintains accounting principles, strong internal controls, and helps scale the accounting infrastructure in a private equity-backed environment. Participates in the continuous process automation, supports the budgeting and forecasting process, and completes additional projects as assigned by the Controller.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and execute the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process and financial reporting across a multi-site network in accordance with GAAP
  • Ensure accurate revenue recognition aligned with clinical trial activity (patient visits and invoiceable) as well as patient stipends and pass-through costs
  • Lead and maintain the integrity of financial data by ensuring transactions are accurately recorded and properly allocated across cross-functional business segments
  • Partner with operational and departmental leaders to ensure consistency in coding, reporting, and supporting reliable financial reporting and analysis
  • Oversee the preparation, review, and maintenance of balance sheet account reconciliations, ensuring all accounts are accurate, fully supported, and properly tied out. Identify and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner to maintain the integrity of financial statements
  • Perform month-end reviews of financial statement trending and variance analysis on a consolidated level and by business segment, providing insights to management
  • Prepare bi-weekly payroll for accuracy and completeness, ensure proper recording of payroll journal entries, and conduct detailed payroll variance analysis. Administer and analyze monthly headcount reporting to support financial and operational insights.
  • Manage the monthly close process across functional areas to meet required timelines
  • Support monthly management, private equity, and lender reporting requirements as assigned
  • Assist with annual audit and tax return process and complete statutory reporting requirements
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, CPA strongly preferred
  • 5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience including both public and private experience
  • Experience with a fast-paced, multi-entity or multi-location environment
  • Private Equity, Clinical Site Network, multi-site healthcare, or CRO industry experience a plus
  • Advanced Excel skills and NetSuite experience a plus
  • Hands-on, detail-oriented, organized and able to meet deadlines 
  • Comfortable operating in a growing, evolving organization
  • Ability to balance execution and process improvement
  • Strong communication skills with both finance and operational teams
  • Be able to work effectively in a highly collaborative team environment
  • Have a positive approach to day-to-day tasks and challenges
