Please note this role requires working in Australian working times, with a minimum of four hours overlap. Working Sunday to Thursday Brazil times.
 

Senior Backend Engineer

Why this role exists

• Shape the work. Partner with a PM or stakeholder to clarify the problem, define the scope, and write the tickets. Break projects into milestones that can ship.
• Design first. Produce clear, lightweight design docs and diagrams. Pick sensible trade-offs. If you take over a half-built project, you can read the tea leaves fast and finish it.
• Build it well. Write clean code, factor thoughtfully, keep the blast radius small. You’re comfortable moving across services and touching the UI when needed.
• Own quality. Write tests at the right levels, define acceptance criteria, and do targeted manual checks. Use feature flags and progressive delivery.
• Operate in production. Ship via CI/CD, watch metrics and logs, root-cause issues, and lead post-mortems with follow-through.
• Communicate like a pro. Share updates async, demo work, and keep stakeholders unblocked without hand-holding.

The Role Requirements

• 6+ years of experience in software development or equivalent.
• 2+ years in backend development for multi-tenant, cloud-native SaaS software.
• Strong proficiency in:
  • Java, Spring, or Spring Boot
  • Decoupled and event-driven architectures
  • Secure, scalable, and resilient cloud-native solutions
  • Microservices
  • AWS services (e.g., Lambda, S3, SNS, SQS)
• Fluent or native English communication skills.

Desirable Qualifications (The more the better)

• Experience in fast-paced FinTech or SaaS environments.
• Expertise in designing APIs as modular building blocks for future products.
• Experience with distributed systems and understanding of key integration patterns.
• Experience with modern User and API authentication and authorisation implementation.
• Working experience with Kubernetes.
• Have familiarity with JavaScript and a modern front-end framework (e.g. React, Angular, or Vue.js), to craft code that integrates seamlessly with the front end and apply front-end changes when needed.
• Knowledge of designing and applying observability practices that support effective incident investigation, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis in distributed systems.
