Role
SLR is seeking a Senior Electrical Technologist to provide design, drafting, and management activities for utility-scale solar, energy storage, and transit electrification projects. Candidates are to be based in Canada, but projects will be all over North America and the Caribbean. Ideal candidates for this position are those that are hardworking, detail-oriented, enjoy technical challenges, all while working in a fun and highly collaborative atmosphere.
Responsibilities
• Take full ownership of engineering deliverables from initial scoping and modelling through to final drawing package and client handoff.
• Lead client, vendor, and utility communications, serving as a primary technical interface throughout project execution.
• Develop detailed solar PV, BESS, and fleet electrification designs, ensuring accuracy, constructability, and compliance with internal and external standards.
• Produce high quality drawing packages for interconnection, RFPs, proposals, procurement, and construction using AutoCAD.
• Perform advanced energy modelling and simulations (including PVSyst) and review modelling completed by junior team members.
• Prepare optimized utility scale PV layouts using PVcase, including grading assessments and constraint-based design.
• Coordinate cross functional efforts with Sales, Project Management, Procurement, and Construction to ensure alignment and timely delivery
• Lead small internal engineering or drafting teams on a project basis, providing mentorship, direction, and quality control
• Maintain and enhance design standards, template libraries, and drafting processes to improve efficiency and consistency across the firm
• Conduct technical reviews and QA/QC checks on engineering documentation to ensure accuracy, regulatory compliance, and client satisfaction

• The salary range for this position is $95,000 - $105,000. Final agreed upon compensation will be commensurate with individual education, professional designation, experience, internal parity, and location

Qualifications
• Completion of a Canadian Engineering Technology or Energy Systems Technology program (or equivalent).
• Minimum seven years of experience in electrical, mechanical, civil, or renewable energy design - direct experience in solar PV and BESS is strongly preferred.
• Proven ability to take full technical ownership of complex deliverables with minimal supervision.
• Strong proficiency with AutoCAD PVcase, PVSyst, and Microsoft Office.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including comfortable client facing interaction.
• Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards such as the CEC, OESC, NFPA 855, and utility interconnection requirements.
• Experience coordinating internal teams or directly mentoring junior technical staff.
• Familiarity with electrification design principles (fleet, charging infrastructure, distribution upgrades).
• Experience with project permitting, interconnection submissions, and stakeholder coordination
