Job description

About Juniper Square

Our mission is to unlock the full potential of private markets. Privately owned assets like commercial real estate, private equity, and venture capital make up half of our financial ecosystem yet remain inaccessible to most people. We are digitizing these markets, and as a result, bringing efficiency, transparency, and access to one of the most productive corners of our financial ecosystem. If you care about making the world a better place by making markets work better through technology – all while contributing as a member of a values-driven organization – we want to hear from you.

Juniper Square offers employees a variety of ways to work, ranging from a fully remote experience to working full-time in one of our physical offices. We invest heavily in digital-first operations, allowing our teams to collaborate effectively across 27 U.S. states, 2 Canadian Provinces, India, Luxembourg, and England. We also have physical offices in San Francisco, New York City, Mumbai and Bangalore for employees who prefer to work in an office some or all of the time.

About your role

As a Staff Software Engineer at Juniper Square, you will be primarily a technical leader, identifying and acting on opportunities to increase the engineering team's efficiency, stability, and consistency. You will lead an engineering team and collaborate closely with product, design, and QA teams to build and deliver delightful user experiences that make complex workflows simple and intuitive.

You will lead efforts to instill and iterate on engineering best practices, ensuring a healthy codebase and ultimately leveling up the team.

We are hiring Staff Engineers across two critical domains:

Fundraising: Lead and architect our next-generation fundraising platform to digitize private capital markets through a seamless, "one-click" subscription experience. You will lead the technical strategy for reusable investor profiles and AI-driven intelligence to automate complex financial workflows for enterprise managers. You'll solve high-scale engineering challenges to replace manual, fragmented processes with a modern, "omni-channel" onboarding infrastructure.

Reporting: Lead the squad that builds the backbone of Juniper Square's financial and web reporting. You'll help set the private-markets standard for customizable, actionable reporting, letting users pull any data from anywhere, place it anywhere, in any format, and generate insights that drive decisions. We integrate diverse data sources to deliver intuitive, dynamic reporting experiences. This is a critical, hands-on role for a player-coach who improves systems, automates reporting workflows, enjoys working with financial data, and boosts operational efficiency.

What you’ll do

  • AI-Native Culture & Velocity: Champion and embed AI-native development practices and tools (e.g., Cursor, Augment) to achieve significant productivity gains, fostering a "startup-mode" culture of rapid iteration, high velocity, and quality, including guiding the effective use of AI code generation

  • Technical Ownership & Architecture: Take ownership over the team's architecture, actively participating in design reviews and driving the long-term technical vision.

  • Individual Coding Contribution: Take ownership of team code, and actively participate in coding, testing and delivering roadmap projects. Write high-quality code that is well-tested, secure, and maintainable

  • Service Oriented Architecture: Be instrumental in the transition from our monolith into Service Oriented Architecture

  • Platform & Developer Experience: Actively seek opportunities to improve our platform and developer experience and own those initiatives through execution

  • Workflow Automation & AI Integration: Lead the team in designing and implementing robust workflow automation solutions. Identify opportunities to leverage AI and modern tooling to increase the efficiency and scalability of internal systems

  • Execution & Project Management: Effectively manage the team's short-term roadmap (spanning the next two quarters), actively identifying risks and creating clear mitigation strategies to ensure successful project delivery

  • Team Leadership & Mentorship: Provide full stack focused technical leadership, leveling up existing team members and helping build high-performance teams. Mentor engineers, fostering their technical and professional growth

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional partners (Product, UX, QA, Customer Support) to ensure the team meets project timelines and solutions align with business strategy. Handle most cross-team conflicts and decisions autonomously

  • Operational Excellence: Own monitoring, diagnosing, and resolving production issues within the team's services. Actively monitoring and addressing production issues

  • Best Practices Implementation: Implement and ensure best practices across the teams to maximize developer productivity

  • Hiring & Team Building: Partner with recruiting to build and grow the team

  • Code Reviews & Quality: Contribute directly to efforts through building features and frameworks, conducting code reviews, participating in architecture and system design discussions

  • Complex Workflow Development: Lead the development of complex workflows, working with both frontend and backend engineers

  • Domain Expertise: Grow into a subject matter expert (SME) in your domain (Reporting or Fundraising), with an in-depth understanding of customer needs and value proposition

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or equivalent work experience

  • 7+ years of experience working with modern web application frameworks (preferably React) and demonstrating a trajectory of increasing technical leadership, architectural responsibility, and mentorship

  • Expertise in object-oriented programming (OOP) such as Python, Node/TS, Java, C++, C#, or similar server-side languages

  • Experience with front-end technologies like React, CSS frameworks, HTML, and JavaScript

  • Solid understanding of server-side MVC frameworks (like Django, Rails, Pyramid etc.)

  • Experience with Relational Databases like Postgres or MySQL

  • Experience with SQL database schema design and query optimization

  • Experience with Cloud technologies (AWS preferred) and Container technologies (Docker and k8s)

  • Experience operating Linux clusters (Amazon Web Services is a plus)

  • Demonstrable product focus and a keen understanding of how technology can solve customer problems and drive business outcomes

  • Highly self-driven, with a proactive approach to leadership, technical problem-solving, and initiative execution

  • Experience working in agile development environments and familiarity with practices that promote rapid iteration and velocity

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders and align them on product goals

  • A strong "player-coach" mindset, with a proven ability and willingness to be hands-on with code, design, and architecture when necessary to lead by example and unblock your team

  • Enthusiasm for adopting and driving the use of AI-native development tools and methodologies (e.g., Cursor, Augment, Lovable.ai)

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and lead teams effectively in a fast-paced, innovative environment

  • Deep understanding of service-oriented architecture, modern software development practices, and developing scalable, reliable systems

  • You must be flexible and adaptable, you will be juggling multiple projects in a fast-paced startup environment

Nice to Have:

  • For Fundraising: Experience in a Treasury, Payments, Fundraising, or Investor Relations domain

  • For Reporting: Experience with data integration platforms, ETL/ELT processes, business intelligence tools, or working with financial data

At Juniper Square, we believe building a diverse workforce and an inclusive culture makes us a better company. If you think this job sounds like a fit, we encourage you to apply even if you don't meet all the qualifications.
