Roles & Responsibilities

  • Engage with landowners, partners, and carbon buyers; provide technical explanations on project design, methodology requirements, and carbon accounting; support due diligence and negotiations.

Job description

Arbonics is expanding its Project Development team and is seeking a Carbon Project Developer with strong technical writing expertise to lead the preparation of Verra-compliant Project Design Documents (PDDs) for afforestation/reforestation and other nature-based carbon projects.

The first project will focus on a VM0047 afforestation project, but the role will extend to supporting additional projects across Arbonics portfolio.

This is a hybrid role combining technical carbon project development and stakeholder collaboration. In addition to leading the research and preparation of PDD documentation, you will support commercial teams in evaluating and acquiring new commercial opportunities.

You will become the technical expert representing Arbonics in discussions with landowners, partners, and project stakeholders, helping answer detailed questions about project eligibility, methodology requirements, and carbon accounting.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys deep technical work but also thrives in collaborative environments and is comfortable participating in complex discussions across project development, due diligence, and land acquisition processes.

Key Responsibilities

Carbon project development

  • Lead the preparation of Verra (or other carbon standard) compliant Project Design Documents (PDDs)
  • Conduct research and analysis supporting baseline establishment, additionality, leakage, and monitoring plans
  • Coordinate internally to gather required datasets, modeling inputs, and documentation
  • Ensure project documentation aligns with Verra VCS standards and validation requirements
  • Prepare documentation for project validation and verification processes

Technical expertise in project development

  • Support the evaluation of new land opportunities for carbon projects
  • Provide technical insight into project feasibility and methodology eligibility
  • Work closely with commercial teams during early-stage project assessment

Stakeholder engagement

  • Participate in discussions with landowners, partners, and carbon credit buyers
  • Provide technical explanations regarding project design, methodology requirements, and carbon accounting
  • Respond to detailed technical questions during due diligence processes
  • Contribute technical expertise in meetings related to project development, contracting, and negotiations

Requirements

  • Experience developing carbon projects and writing Project Design Documents (PDDs)
  • Familiarity with Verra VCS methodologies, ideally including ARR / afforestation methodologies such as VM0047
  • Strong technical writing and research skills
  • Background in forestry, environmental science, carbon markets, ecology, or a related field
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to a range of stakeholders
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work across technical and commercial teams
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical thinking

Nice to have

  • Experience with afforestation or nature-based carbon projects
  • Familiarity with validation and verification processes
  • Experience working with forestry datasets, GIS, or carbon modeling tools
  • Experience engaging with landowners or project partners
  • Knowledge of Scottish forestry systems or land management is a strong asset

Other details

Contract: 12-month fixed-term contract, with the possibility of extension upon successful completion and continued project development needs.
