Roles & Responsibilities

  • Power BI and Tableau proficiency; APICS CSCP/CLTD or Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) status is highly desirable.

Requirements:

  • Design and maintain the domestic distribution network, including routing guides, lane analytics (LTL to FTL/Intermodal), and last-mile/parcel and drayage strategies to optimize cost and OTIF.
  • Oversee global freight and international trade activities: customs documentation, international shipments, Incoterm management, and coordination with global forwarders.
  • Lead Deployment and Order Fulfillment improvements: develop streamlined processes, automate reporting, build tools and dashboards, and coordinate with planning, warehousing, and production to ensure on-time shipment and availability.
  • Perform Advanced Analytics and Technology tasks: build real-time KPI dashboards (Power BI/Tableau) and monitor freight spend, variances, and budget with finance.

Senior Analyst - Logistics Strategy Job Summary

The Senior Analyst for Logistics Strategy is a high-impact role that bridges the gap between Deployment, Order Fulfillment and Domestic & International Transportation. This role is responsible for the strategic design and daily oversight of the end-to-end movement of goods. This role manages the strategy and key performance indicators that measure success for the Deployment, Order Fulfillment and Domestic & International Transportation teams. This role will be responsible for holding each team accountable to meet their service and financial targets, as well as report results to senior leadership while managing projects to support continuous improvement initiatives and cost savings.

Core Responsibilities

1. Domestic Transportation & Distribution

  • Network Optimization: Design and maintain a high-efficiency domestic routing guide. Analyze lane data to convert LTL (Less-Than-Truckload) to FTL (Full Truckload) or Intermodal moves to drive cost savings and increase On-Time In-Full (OTIF)

  • Modal Analysis: Evaluate and execute transportation modes to balance urgent inventory needs against transportation spend, (e.g. shifting from Air to Ocean or Intermodal to truck).

  • Carrier Management: Partner with 3rd party Managed Transportation provider and Global freight forwarder to ensure smooth daily operations and assist with RFP processes.

  • Last-Mile & Parcel Strategy: Oversee the parcel network (UPS, FedEx, Regional), managing rate quotes and strategies.

  • Drayage & Inland Logistics: Coordinate the critical link between ports/rail ramps and inland warehouses, minimizing costly demurrage and detention fees through proactive scheduling

2. Global Freight & International Trade

  • Customs & Documentation: Create and facilitate the flow of international shipping documents (Commercial Invoices, BOLs, etc.) and partner with internal trade compliance team to ensure compliant global shipments. 

  • International Logistics: Manages and facilitates shipments based on volume and capacity, and expediting with vendors as business dictates

  • Incoterm Strategy: Manage shipments under varying Incoterms (e.g., EXW, FCA, DDP) to balance risk and freight spend.

  • Forwarder Relations: Serve as the primary partner with external Global Freight Forwarders, ensuring space protection and competitive ocean rates.

3. Deployment & Order Fulfillment

  • Influence strategic change within team by developing streamlined processes, automated reporting, and operational efficiencies between Deployment and Order Fulfillment teams 

  • Project manage solutions with cross-functional stakeholders to improve operational execution within the full supply chain impacting Deployment & Order Fulfillment operations

  • Build dynamic tools and dashboards for operations to use to execute the daily operation and automate manual processes

  • Build executive dashboards and reporting to review KPI and project updates to leadership 

  • Prioritize product for orders in constrained supply situations, determining when to ship orders directly from the plant, when PO’s may need to be extended, when product in transit will arrive, and/or when new production will be available.

  • Work with Warehouse Fulfillment planning, Transportation, and Warehousing, to resolve and mitigate product availability issues for all customers.

  • Utilize the JDA planning tool to develop and execute the most cost-effective plan to deploy production, and maintain supply across the warehouse network for production originating from manufacturing 

  • Monitor timeliness of shipments, and work with production sites, carriers, and warehouses to ensure on-time shipment from the production site and on-time arrival at warehouses. 

  • Participate in annual execution of new SKU initiatives.  Collaborate with the supply planner and customer supply chain teams to ensure product is available to ship from across the network to meet target availability dates.

  • Drive continuous improvement by working with internal contacts as needed to resolve recurring issues. 

  • Ensure operational workflow incorporates KPI metrics driving daily processes and prioritization 

  • Closely partner with the Order Fulfillment team to determine arrival dates for BDT and customer communication; Collaborate as needed with Customer Service and BDT teams regarding order issues and timing.

  • Coordinates forecast variance adjustments with manufacturing and production planning

  • Assist with projects which could include rebalances, analyzing fill rate performance and process improvement collaboration/testing.

4. Advanced Analytics & Technology

  • KPI Dashboarding: Build and maintain real-time visibility dashboards using Power BI or Tableau. Measure KPIs and manage vendor relationships through data/fact driven approach

  • Cost Management: Analyze "Freight as a % of Sales," "Cost per Kilo," and "Accessorial Spend" to identify leakage. Report freight variance spend to budget and partner with finance to create and evaluate budget throughout the year.  Communicate favorable and unfavorable spend to senior management. 

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, International Business, or Data Analytics. 

  • Experience: 5+ years in Transportation logistics, with at least 2 years specifically focused on international freight or customs. Financial background encouraged.

  • Technical Skills: 

    • Advanced Excel (Pivot Tables, Power Query, Macros).

    • Experience with ERP (SAP S/4HANA) and OTM TMS platforms.

    • Power BI & Tableau

Certifications: APICS (CSCP/CLTD) or Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) status is highly desirable.

The starting budgeted pay range for this role will generally fall between $87,600.00 - $103,100.00 per year. Scotts will consider various factors in determining the actual pay including your skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location.For remote roles where the final candidate resides in Alaska, California, Colorado, Illinois, New York, Oregon or Washington, state required pay thresholds will be factored into base salary.
