This is a remote position.
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Lawyer to take full ownership of client matters within a dynamic and commercially focused legal practice. This role is designed for a lawyer who values autonomy, sound judgment, and the ability to manage legal work end-to-end without unnecessary hierarchy.
The position involves advising on franchising, commercial, and small business matters, with a strong emphasis on delivering clear, practical, and commercially grounded legal advice. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing client relationships, legal strategy, and transactional work, while contributing to the firm’s continued growth and operational excellence.
This is a senior, high-trust position suited to a lawyer who thrives in a modern, technology-enabled environment and is comfortable working independently while maintaining high professional standards.
Manage full carriage of client matters from initial consultation through to resolution
Draft, review, and negotiate a range of commercial agreements, including franchise agreements, leases, licensing, and distribution contracts
Provide strategic legal advice with a strong focus on commercial risk and practical outcomes
Advise franchisors and franchisees on legal obligations, structuring, and compliance
Handle property and leasing matters, including retail and commercial leases
Represent clients in alternative dispute resolution processes, including mediations
Build and maintain strong client relationships across a range of industries
Contribute to the development of internal processes, systems, and legal standards
Support and, as the team grows, help lead junior lawyers and support staff
Utilize legal technology and practice management systems to drive efficiency and accuracy
Ability to work autonomously and take full ownership of legal matters
High level of professionalism, attention to detail, and accountability
Strong organizational and time management skills
Comfortable working in a technology-driven legal environment (Office 365 and practice management systems such as Actionstep, Leap, Clio, or Smokeball)
Ability to balance independent work with collaborative team contribution
Undergraduate degree in Law with a current practising certificate
4–10 years’ post-admission experience
Demonstrated experience in franchising, SME advisory, or commercial law
Strong experience in property and leasing, licensing, and distribution agreements
Solid understanding of Australian Consumer Law and its practical application
Experience in dispute resolution or litigation is advantageous but not essential
Strong commercial judgment and ability to provide clear, actionable legal advice
Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills
Proven ability to manage matters independently and efficiently
