Staff, Software Engineer

Position Summary...

About the team

You will be an integral part of the AI and Data team at IDC, where you will play a key role in building, enhancing, and maintaining AI platforms that empower Walmart’s data science community. Your responsibilities will include designing and developing new features, ensuring platform reliability, and driving product stability to meet the evolving needs of our associates. By focusing on scalability, performance, and intuitive user experiences, you will directly contribute to improving developer productivity and efficiency. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver seamless solutions, proactively resolve issues, and continuously optimize workflows. Ultimately, your work will have a direct impact on shaping the productivity tools and developer experience at Walmart, enabling thousands of engineers to innovate faster and deliver high-quality solutions to millions of customers.

What You’ll Do:

We are looking for a highly skilled Staff Engineer who is passionate about building scalable, high-performing, and resilient platform solutions. In this role, you will act as a product-focused engineer, experimenting with new ideas, delivering engaging platform capabilities, and collaborating across global teams to strengthen Walmart’s technology ecosystem.
You will play a key part in designing, developing, and operating distributed systems that power our mission-critical applications, ensuring reliability, performance, and innovation at scale

• Build scalable and distributed systems using modern frameworks and cloud-native architectures.
• Design, develop, and optimize RESTful APIs and microservices with a strong emphasis on performance, security, and reliability.
• Conduct root cause analysis to resolve business-critical issues and identify areas for continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with global engineering teams to share best practices and influence platform direction.
• Provide production support, including troubleshooting, triaging, and resolving live issues to maintain system availability.
• Implement DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, observability, monitoring, and alerting for production systems.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams (product, UX, and DevOps) to deliver high-quality, user-centric solutions.
• End to own ownership of deliverables including development and deployment to QA and production.
• Guide junior team members and help the team achieve collective objectives
• Support customers in different forums, addressing issues or help them follow good practices.

What You’ll bring:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field with 9+ years of experience .
• Strong proficiency in Spring Boot (REST APIs, dependency injection, configuration management).
• Expertise in Java, with deep understanding of JVM internals, concurrency, and multithreading.
• Basic programming skills on Python
• Experience with Spring Data JPA / Hibernate, ORM optimization, and database transaction management.
• Hands on experience and expertise with deployment techniques: docker & Kubernetes
• Experience with one or more cloud providers: Azure & GCP
• Intermediate level understanding of machine learning and Generative AI
• Exposure to distributed processing frameworks: Apache Spark, Ray
