Sr. Engineering Product Manager

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering with at least 7 years of experience in networking product development (R&D) or management (PM).
  • In-depth domain knowledge in Layer2 switching, Layer3 IP networking and Wireless 802.11.
  • Engineering background with hands-on hardware design and review experience in product development.
  • Strong understanding of the development cycle and SQA processes, including test-driven development, and ability to track and resolve issues.

  • Project Execution: Manage the suppliers' (ODM, chip vendor, SW suppliers, etc.) product development process, including task reviews and optimization with ODM.
  • Product Verification: Manage verification testing of product features and performance, including compatibility/testing/verification issues with QA and support teams.

Job description

Role Overview:

As a member of the Enterprise Engineering team, you will be responsible for managing the development of Enterprise networking products including switches, APs and Routers.

The primary function of a Technical product development engineers at NETGEAR is project management and technical oversight. The Technical product development engineer manages the ODM or 3rd party company to ensure that products are delivered in a timely fashion to a high quality and in accordance with the NETGEAR procedures and systems. In addition the engineer oversees the activities between the component vendors and the ODM. Within the Enterprise Engineering team, another important project management aspect is working with the PLM to get products approved at market. The engineer must manage the technical issues that arise during the approval process and ensure a rapid resolution by working with and through the PLM, support Engineers, ODMs and Component vendors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take overall responsibility for delivering the product to production; including requirements generation, hardware, firmware, documentation, regulatory testing and Agile release requirements, per Netgear policies. It is expected that projects should be managed with minimal supervision.

  • Project management: Develop, publish and meet schedules, keep all stakeholders informed of product status at all times

  • Project Execution: Manage the suppliers' (ODM, chip vendor, SW suppliers, etc.) product development process, including all product develop related task review and optimization with ODM.

  • Product Verification: Manage verification testing of product features and performance, including compatibility/testing/verification issues with QA and support team.

  • Customer and regulatory Certification: Manage qualification of products with customers and standard body compliance.

  • Documentation: Provide input for manuals, help files, application notes and tech support web pages.

  • Support: Resolve any 3rd level technical support escalations. Work with Sale Engineers to solve issues and provide solutions to customer.

  • Track technology developments, supplier roadmaps, standards bodies and make product recommendations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in CS or EE with at least 7 years experience networking related product develop(RD) or management(PM).

  • In depth domain knowledge in Layer2 switching, Layer3 IP networking and Wireless 802.11.

  • Engineering background with significant hands-on HW design and review experience in product development.

  • Strong understanding of the development cycle and SQA processes of technology products, specifically test driven development, able to track and resolve issues.

  • Effective organization, project management and coordination skills; ability to get the job done.

  • Ability and willingness to take ownership of product; get the job done with minimal supervision.

  • Teamwork: This position requires a close working relationship with the extended Netgear team, including QA, operations, sales, customer support, marketing and program management(PGM).

  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal in English and Mandarin is a MUST.

  • Experience working in a start-up environment. Self-starter that works well on a team. Proven ability to lead a multi-disciplined development team

  • Working knowledge of switch on both hardware/software.

  • Ability to understand and debug/resolve hardware/software issues, strong attention to detail and follow-through on outstanding issues and corrective actions

  • Adaptive to ever-changing situations and answer the challenges.
