Roles & Responsibilities

  • B.S. in Mechanical, Chemical, or related discipline from an accredited university with 4+ years of direct mechanical or chemical systems experience
  • Experience in high temperature and multi-discipline integration, highly desired with nuclear chemical process systems, fluid systems or fluid system component design
  • Strong mechanical and/or chemical aptitude with experience in chemistry, fluid and structural analysis, tolerance analysis, and ability to read engineering drawings; excellent technical writing and communication skills
  • Self-starter with ability to coordinate and lead a design team with minimal direction; capable of handling multiple tasks and resolving conflicts; familiarity with quality standards such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001 is desirable

Requirements:

  • Design nuclear and industrial systems from requirements through final design, including oversight of vendors developing mechanical system and component designs for the Natrium reactor
  • Coordinate reviews of analyses (thermal, seismic, structural, pipe stress, heat transfer, and others) and integrate results into the plant design delivery
  • Manage interface drawings and drawing packages (P&IDs, 3D models, system interface drawings) and establish/maintain system requirements and engineering design specifications
  • Provide technical direction and oversight of supplier projects, ensure delivery of data/deliverables, perform technical reviews, and oversee testing programs for plant system qualification

Job description


Our client is seeking a Contractor to provide the following services to the Sodium Processing Systems team. This position reports to the System Design Manager and is focused on Sodium Processing systems design and integration with equipment suppliers, fostering a collaborative working relationship, and ensuring hardware design meets design intent.

Tasks:

  • Design of nuclear and industrial systems from requirements through final design.
  • Provide oversight to vendors developing mechanical system and component designs for the Natrium reactor.
  • Coordinate the review of analyses, such as thermal, seismic, structural, pipe stress, heat transfer, and other analyses performed by others and integrate the results into plant design delivery.
  • Integrate as-designed hardware into overall system design.
  • Identify and ensure effective application of correct design codes into the design of plant systems such as ASME, ANS, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA, etc.
  • Analyze and allocate regulatory criteria and standards to complex system design.
  • Support planning efforts and maintain schedule adherence for design activities within a system, as well as their integration with an overall plant design delivery schedule.
  • Interface with the design team to manage drawing packages of system designs, including but not limited to Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), 3D models, and system interface drawings.
  • Provide technical direction and oversight of supplier projects, working with the Contract Administrator and Supplier Project Engineer to ensure delivery of data and other deliverables, as well as coordination and performance of technical reviews of deliverables.
  • Establish and maintain system requirements and specification documents, such as Engineering Design Specifications for major plant equipment.
  • Propose, initiate, and oversee testing programs for plant system qualification, as needed.
  • Generate design package for systems, sub-systems, and equipment designs including coordination of calculations, design reports, mechanical drawings, and engineering design specifications.

Key Qualifications and Skills:

  • B.S. in Mechanical, Chemical, or related discipline from an accredited university and 4+ years direct experience with proven mechanical or chemical systems skills.
  • Experience in high temperature and multi-discipline integration highly desired with nuclear chemical process systems, fluid systems or fluid system component design a plus.
  • Strong mechanical and/or chemical aptitude with demonstrated experience in chemistry, fluid and structural analysis, tolerance analysis, and the ability to read engineering drawings.
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Attention to detail and aspiration for technical excellence.
  • Candidate must be a self-starter and possess ability to coordinate and lead a design team's effort with minimal direction.
  • Ability to handle projects that include many competing objectives and design constraints, with ability to resolve conflicts between objectives.
  • Ability to work on simultaneous tasks that require a multi-disciplinary approach.
  • Experience working to quality standards on design activities, such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001 is desired.
  • Strong communication skills desired.
  • The service provider will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.
  • Actual position starting level and title will be determined based on assessment of qualifications.
