Hanover Research – Quantitative Researcher - Part-Time Temporary Opportunity

Arlington, VA

Remote Opportunity


The Temporary Quantitative Researcher will be responsible for quantitative research reports on a wide variety of education research topics. This position will allow for the swift development and refinement of applied set of research skills and provides the opportunity to develop a relationship with a young and rapidly growing enterprise. We expect all contractors to be intellectually curious, ambitious, and interested in assuming increasing levels of responsibility. 

High-Impact Education Research
Higher Education

  • Projects: enrollment funnel analyses; student success and retention evaluations; program cost calculations; ad hoc descriptive analyses targeting specific client questions; etc.

  • Work with public and private universities and colleges across the country, each with their own unique perspective and needs; draw insights from proprietary student-level data; contribute to meaningful solutions; collaborate with colleagues who are passionate about education and student success.

Responsibilities

  • Process and clean datasets for analysis;

  • Perform statistical modeling and regression analysis on education-related data;

  • Form hypotheses and locate compelling support for arguments under tight deadlines;

  • Put together visually appealing dashboards showcasing static and interactive findings;

  • Write up findings and key takeaways in a clear and concise manner.

Desired Skills and Attributes

  • Intermediate level user of statistical analysis software - STATA;

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply econometric and statistical methods to practical research problems;

  • High comfort level with Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;

  • Experience working with and preparing real-world datasets for analysis, including identifying and reshaping or merging data;

  • Willingness and ability to learn new quantitative skills as necessary and apply them in new contexts;

  • Experience with, or ability to learn, data visualization software -- Microsoft Power BI.

  • Experience with institution-level Higher Education data, including but not limited to student demographic data, course data, financial aid data.

  • Ability to collaborate and strategize with senior-level research directors;

  • Ability to accept feedback and constructive critique positively;

  • Strong command of the English language and demonstrated writing and editing skills, including experience explaining complex statistical concepts to non-technical audience.

Education Requirement

A Master’s or Doctoral degree in Statistics, Economics, another Social Science with quantitative training, or related quantitative discipline is preferred.
 
Experience Requirement

2 - 5 years of work experience (or equivalent academic work) conducting quantitative research and analysis is preferred. Experience working in the Higher education sector (for example, in institutional research, assessment, or evaluation) is strongly preferred.

Compensation  

Hanover Research strives to create compensation that is competitive, equitable and fair.  The compensation for this part-time temporary opportunity at the company is $50.00 per hour. Please note this compensation range is contingent on the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
