Job description

About The Team

The Research Collaboration Unit is a specialised R&D team within A&G’s Research Networks. Our mission is to bring the customer voice to life by partnering closely with leading researchers and institutions. We translate customer needs into proof‑of‑concept projects that shape Elsevier’s go‑to‑market strategy and support key business goals. Through these collaborations, we deliver meaningful insights and high‑impact deliverables for internal product teams, while also driving external thought leadership alongside our customers.

About the Role

As a Business Consultant manager, you will act as the link between Elsevier and our customers. You’ll gather insights through user interviews, desk research, and internal collaboration to ensure RCU projects are validated in the market. You will also work closely with Product, Strategy, and Marketing teams to share findings and ensure RCU insights influence key decisions across the business.

  • Assess emerging markets, data sources, and use cases with high potential impact.

  • Define project parameters such as market need, feasibility, scalability, and alignment with Elsevier’s current offerings.

Internal Collaboration

  • Partner closely with internal teams—Product, Strategy, Pricing, and Marketing—to shape and deliver proof‑of‑concept projects.

  • Ensure key learnings are integrated across the business through thought‑leadership outputs, insights for product teams, and scalable datasets.

  • Conduct interviews with a range of stakeholders including librarians, researchers, bibliometricians, research leaders, and funders to validate needs and test potential solutions.

  • Lead market research on size, competition, and industry trends.

  • Monitor competitive positioning, policy changes, and external business factors impacting the ecosystem.

Requirements

  • 7–10 years’ experience in strategy, business development, or strategic marketing.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Strategy, Marketing, or a related field.

  • Strong stakeholder management and cross‑functional collaboration skills.

  • Proven ability to work across multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Proficiency in business tools, data visualization, reporting, and communication.

  • Understanding of academic and research community needs, particularly in research evaluation, integrity, and reproducibility.

  • Experience supporting roadmap development or working with product development teams.
