Requirements:

  • Determine liability on all claims lodged by workers and employers in accordance with the Act, including conducting relevant investigations
  • Review and discuss new claims with stakeholders, assess liability within legislative timeframes, and arrange appropriate investigations to inform decisions
  • Make objective decisions on liability in accordance with the Act and WorkSafe guidelines (including online claims manual) and communicate outcomes to workers, employers and other stakeholders
  • Proactively manage pended claims to encourage return-to-work outcomes, including engaging Mobile Claims Specialists as needed

Reporting to the Eligibility Team Leader you will be responsible for providing proactive support to the claims team relating to the assessment of liability and the determination of claims. The role involves the investigating, strategizing, tracking, follow up and determination of complex claims to achieve the best possible outcome.

The purpose of this role is to make decisions on whether to accept, investigate or reject claims and once liability has been determined, forward the appropriate claims to the relevant case manager for on-going management.

This is a full time, permanent position based in the Melbourne office with flexibility to work from home up to 3 days per week.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Determine liability on all claims lodged by workers and employers in accordance with the Act, including undertaking the following activities where relevant:

  • Review and discuss new claims lodged by employers and workers with all appropriate stakeholders and assess liability within the legislative timeframes

  • Appropriate investigations are to be arranged to assist in the decision making process

  • Based on the evidence available make objective decisions and in accordance with the Act

  • Make decisions in accordance with WorkSafe guidelines, including the online claims manual

  • Liaise and communicate with workers, employers and other stakeholders

  • Ensure early management of pended claims with the employer and worker to encourage return to work outcomes and where appropriate engage a Mobile Claims Specialist to assist with efforts to return a worker back to safe and sustainable work

ABOUT YOU

  • Previous experience handling claims liability decisions and/or a background in worker’s compensation would be advantageous

  • High level of resilience and a willingness to hold complex conversations  

  • High attention to detail and organisational skills

  • Effective communication and conflict resolution skills

  • Effectively listen and understand the needs of the customer
