Position Description:

Bridgenext is seeking a senior Power BI Engineer to support modernization of largescale, legacy BI platforms into cloudnative Power BI and Microsoft Fabric–based solutions. This role is highly handson and focused on performance, scalability, and semantic modeling for complex enterprise datasets. 

 

The engineer will work closely with data engineers and business stakeholders to address challenges related to large data volumes, refresh latency, and cost optimization, while supporting ongoing migration from SSRS / SSAS–style models to modern analytics platforms. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop enterprise-grade Power BI reports and dashboards
  • Build optimize semantic models using DAX, Power Query and tabular modeling concepts
  • Implement DirectQuery, Composite Models, and Aggregations to handle large data volumes 
  • Optimize report performance and large dataset export capabilities 
  • Support migration from SSRS (Paginated Reports) and legacy BI solutions to Power BI
  • Collaborate with data engineering teams to align data structures for analytics consumption 
  • Apply rowlevel security (RLS) and governance best practices 
  • Act as a technical escalation point for Power BI performance and modeling issues 

 

Workplace: This is a remote role requiring full-time Eastern timezone working hours and travel to Toronto office once per quarter.  We have the ability to hire applicants based in Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, or British Columbia

 

 

Must Have Skills:

  • 5+ years of Business Intelligence experience 
  • Expert level Power BI development (DAX, Power Query) 
  • Strong experience with semantic modeling and analytical data design 
  • Proven ability to handle large datasets, refresh optimization, and performance tuning 
  • Experience working with data sourced from Databricks or SQL-based warehouses 
  • Experience supporting or leading BI platform migrations 
     

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience migrating SSRS / Paginated Reports to Power BI 
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric Semantic Models / Direct Lake 
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines for Power BI deployments 
  • Experience in regulated industries (insurance, banking, healthcare)

Compensation varies depending on a wide array of factors, which may include but are not limited to location, role, skill set, and level of experience. As required by local law, Bridgenext provides a reasonable range of compensation, based on full-time employment, for roles that may be hired as described above. The current salary range for this position is $115,000 - $135,000 CAD annually. Our comprehensive total rewards program goes way beyond a competitive salary.
