POSITION SUMMARY

Working closely with the global design team, the Freelance Layout Designer will use existing Adobe InDesign templates to produce professional-grade PDF reports that may be as short as 2 pages or as long as 50+ pages.  

Location: Remote

Reports to: Senior Design Associate 

Contract: through end of 2026, with possibility of renewal  

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate with design team members to format and design report content in Adobe InDesign  
  • Work within the confines of established templates, unless instructed otherwise 
  • Adhere to best practices related to image handling, color management, and delivery of design file
  • Occasionally utilize Adobe Illustrator to make minor adjustments to graphics within reports  
  • Conduct thorough review of all deliverables to ensure accuracyoptimal legibility, and adherence to brand guidelines  
  • Meet deadlines which are sometimes tight but always discussed and agreed upon in advance 
  • Address requests for edits from the design and/or project teams 

 

COMPETENCIES & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

Essential

  • Proven experience in layout design, including 20+ page documents  
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Adobe InDesign, including utilizing master pages, typographic styles, and interactive features 
  • Efficiency and workflow optimization skills in InDesign 
  • Basic to intermediate proficiency in Adobe Illustrator 
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word 
  • Clear and timely communication 
  • A keen eye for detail, including when working under the pressure of a tight deadline 

 

Desirable

  • Proficiency with GREP Styles, Data Merge, Scripting and other automation techniques in Adobe InDesign 
  • Experience developing complex custom InDesign templates

This is a freelance position that is compensated by the hour on a project-to-project basis. Workload will generally be heavier during our busy season of September – November, and lighter during other months of the year.
