  • Meets regularly with in-house counsel to discuss current matters and projects; assists with contract management and credentialing processes
  • Manages and maintains the contract management database and handles credentialing requests from managed care organizations

The Staff Attorney reports to the Vice President of Legal Services. Under the general supervision of the Vice President of Legal Services, The Staff Attorney performs complex and responsible legal work for Chapters Health System, Inc. and its subsidiaries (collectively, the “Company”). S/he assists the Vice President of Legal Services in his capacity as counsel to the Company on a broad range of legal matters related to regulations, codes, licensure, leases, contracts, medical malpractice and other areas of risk to the Company. S/he is knowledgeable about health care, not-for-profit corporations and commercial/contract law.

Qualifications:

  • Must meet, at least, one of the following requirements:
    • Bachelor’s degree in any field, plus not less than 6 months of in-house training as a paralegal
    • A minimum of 3 years of law-related experience under the supervision of an attorney, including a minimum of 6 months of in-house training as a paralegal
    • Successful completion of Certified Legal Assistant (CLA) examination of National Association of Legal Assistants
    • Graduation from an American Bar Association (ABA) approved program of study for paralegals
    • Graduation from a course of study for paralegals that is institutionally accredited but not ABA approved, and which requires not less than the equivalent of 60 semester hours of classroom study
    • Graduation from a course of study for paralegals, other than those set forth above, plus a minimum of 6 months of in-house training as a paralegal
  • Must be a notary public or be eligible for appointment as a notary public
  • Knowledge of legal terminology; legal forms and documents; court systems and filing requirements; business English, spelling, grammar and punctuation; modern legal office practices, procedures and equipment
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures in the fields of contracts, leases and real estate title work
  • Ability to perform legal research using reference materials generally available within a law library and/or electronic research tools
  • Ability to analyze and review contracts and other legal documents and assist an attorney in determining whether the necessary provisions are contained therein
  • Expert working knowledge of a variety of software programs, including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Well-developed time management and organizational skills with the ability to organize and prioritize workload and manage multiple priorities simultaneously in an effective manner
  • Adheres to the general principles of proper conduct as defined by the Paralegal Association of Florida, Inc. as adopted by the National Association of Legal Assistants, Inc.
  • Ability to work effectively and professionally with attorneys, other paralegals, secretaries, clients and outside organizations

Job Responsibilities:

  • Drafts, prepares, and processes correspondence, announcements, memos, reports, and spreadsheets. 
  • Coordinates with Organization departmental representatives and vendors to acquire background and preliminary information necessary for contracts and other legal documents; review certain contracts and other legal documents and assist an attorney in determining whether necessary provisions are contained therein.
  • Utilizes technical information to make an independent decision and recommendation to the supervising attorney.
  • Discusses agreement matters with appropriate Organization representatives, managers and/or vendors.
  • Functions as a liaison between in-house counsel, outside counsel and internal and external customers in a variety of activities, actions and projects.
  • Meets regularly with in-house counsel to discuss current matters and projects.  
  • Analyzes and tabulates data.
  • Manages and maintains contract management database.
  • Manages and completes credentialing requests from managed care organizations.
  • Maintains professional growth and development, and professional certifications, if applicable, through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Compensation Pay Range:

$25.78 - $38.67
